Easton Press Signed First Editions: A Collector’s Paradise
Nigel Patterson, September 2021
For those fans interested in collecting rare editions of Elvis books, one option is the Easton Press signed limited edition series.
The “deluxe” Easton Press editions are striking to look at. They are genuine collectable items, characterized by:
- Limited editions - hand numbered
- High quality full leather covers
- Personally signed by the author(s)
- 22kt gold lettering on the cover and spine
- Specially milled acid-neutral paper
- Smyth sewn pages with gilded edges
- End sheets of moire silk
- Permanent ribbon page marker
The books have the same content as "first editions" (of course, the number of pages may vary due to page design, font size etc).....
In the ever-expanding Elvis Presley "Deluxe" book market the characteristics of the Easton Press publications are genuine "special and high-quality" compared to other 'general' releases such as 'Elvis Files' or FTD books which can be described as routine quality "coffee table" releases.
The Easton Press publications are found on 'Rare' and 'Antiquarian' lists .
The Elvis titles so far released in the Easton Press Signed First Edition series include:
- Elvissey (Jack Womack), 1993 - a novel
- Elvis A Celebration (Mike Evans), 2002 (shown above)
- The Elvis Album (Millie Ridge), 2003
- Elvis Presley Unseen Archives (Marie Clayton), 2004
- Elvis Presley The Man, The Life, The Legend (Pamela Clarke Keough), 2004
- Elvis and Me (Priscilla Beaulieu Presley), 2007
- The Elvis Encyclopedia (Adam Victor), 2008
- Elvis (Michael Heatley & Deke Leonard) 2011
Elvissey by Jack Womack - - - and - - - The Elvis Encyclopedia by Adam Victor
A number of the volumes were also released by Chartwell Books (see Heatley & Leonard book image above) generally with the same high quality characteristics - the only difference being that they are less valuable as they do not appear to have been signed by the author(s).
Some of the titles can be found on ebay and through online booksellers such as Amazon and ABE Books. With the exception of Elvissey, they are usually expensive, between US$100 and US$200 (not including postage). Given their high quality production values, they are an impressive acquisition that will proudly stand out on your Elvis bookshelves.

(Interview) Piotr Soczynski talks to EIN: While serious collectors will be familiar with Piotr Soczynski’s phenomenal work in documenting little known parts of the Elvis recording catalog, most fans will not. This is a great pity, as Piotr, who lives in Poland, has already published five of the best Elvis books in 2021, with two more volumes due later this year and in 2022. These books are:
★ Elvis Army Vinyl Records 1956-1967
★ Elvis Army Vinyl Records 1968-1991
★ Elvis U.S. Demo and Acetates 1953-1965
★ Elvis U.S. Demo and Acetates 1965-1993
★ Vinyl Discography from Eastern Europe, Part 1
★ Vinyl Discography from Eastern Europe, Part 2 (late 2021)
★ Vinyl Discography from Eastern Europe, Part 3 (expected 2022)
The first four volumes sold out quickly earlier this year, while the more recent first volume of Piotr’s Eastern Europe vinyl trilogy is selling fast. The depth of information, glorious visuals, and strong, clean book design have resulted in fascinating “coffee table” releases which will please (amaze) both collectors and the general fan. Piotr recently took time out to discuss Elvis in Poland and his series of books which are an important narrative-visual record of little understood Elvis vinyl releases.
