MRS 'Elvis:Back In Living Stereo' in-depth Review: The new MRS set contains 6CDs of essential 1960-1962 master recordings, plus rare alternate outtakes - including plenty of officially unreleased material - and all of the personal home recordings Elvis made during the 1960s.
The 100 page book, with text from Gordon Minto, includes rare unpublished documents and photographs, supported by a comprehensive text discussing each of Elvis’ RCA studio (non-film) recording sessions held during 1960-62.
Musically the packed cds - over seven hours - present a stunning look at Elvis recording in the early sixties before the shine wore off. The "Master" sessions nicely contrast with the looser "Outtakes" discs and with Elvis getting even more uninhibited on the Home Recordings. - Very unihibited with a certain Nancy Sharpe!
But with so much thrown into the mix, and some tracks in poor audio quality, have MRS packed "Too Much" into the one release.
Go here as EIN's Nigel Patterson & Piers Beagley check out the positives and negatives in their in-depth review.

"Elvis Reborn" New CD:Out now a stunning rework of Elvis' mono classics into impressive STEREO.
.. Hear 30 classic Elvis songs like you've never heard them before... in STEREO!
Through a new, cutting-edge digital audio process called DES (Digitally Extracted Stereo), it is now possible to create new, authentic-sounding stereo mixes from original mono recordings.
Since instruments and vocals typically occupy fairly narrow frequency ranges, DES is able to isolate guitars, drums, piano, bass, singers, etc. and extract them into separate tracks that can be remixed just like multi-track stereo recordings. This breakthrough technology allows fans to experience their
favorite mono songs in a more lifelike way than ever before!
These are NOT "overdubs". No new instrumentation has been added. All of the sounds you hear are the original musicians backing Elvis, but with a clarity that exposes for the first time sounds you never heard before!
This exciting, trend-setting CD is as close as you will come to actually being present in the studio when these songs were recorded in the glory days of rock 'n' roll.

New FTD February Releases: Two new FTD releases announce for release later next month.
1. 'Elvis In California' Double-soundboard. As part of the ongoing live on tour series, FTD is pleased to announce the release of 'Elvis In California'. Released as a 2-CD 5” digi-pak, this set features Elvis touring during May 1974.
Elvis' 10th tour was short, five concerts in California over four days the most famous being his two 'Forum of Inglewood' concerts on May 11, 1974. (As released on FTD 'Live in LA')
Elvis was in good form. The San Bernadino local review of Elvis' first concert there included, "Above all Elvis Presley knows what the faithful want and he bowls them over with his style. That's why he was a sellout at the Swing last night, will be on Monday night when he returns, and sells out wherever he performs.
"I'm a cement mixer, baby," he snarls at the screamers, "a churning urn of burning funk." Believe it."
The shows, taken from the original soundboard tapes, feature unreleased concerts from Selland Arena, Fresno (May 12) and Swing Auditorium, San Bernadino (May 10 & 13).
The set-list is familiar early 1974 material including, Steamroller Blues, Help Me, Funny How Time Slips Away and Big Boss Man.

'Lonesome August Nights' New Import: To be released in the early February, Lonesome August Nights (SR Records) will focus on Elvis’ August 1972 Las Vegas season, featuring August 18 1972 dinner & midnight show AUDIENCE RECORDINGS, previously unreleased and taken directly from the original high-quality tapes.
The August 18 Midnight Show was previously released on vinyl format in the SR boxed edition of Not too Sweet, here for the first time will be released on CD format completely remastered.
The SR attitude is to present Elvis at the peak of his possibility and without any doubt Elvis’ second week in Vegas August season presents him at the top of his possibilities, delivering great shows. If Rock is an attitude, then the man has it. The performances are terrific, rough and sharp.
On August 18th on the backstage just before to go on the stage The Colonel informed Elvis that his Lawyer had delivered the application for a divorce on the Los Angeles Superior Court... Elvis's answer was a simple nod with the head and two unbelievable SHOWS.
Elvis at least at the begin seems to enjoy this newfound freedom delivering an unbelievable last great Las Vegas season.
Elvis sings and looks magnificent on the stage is iperactive and He performs all the songs to the maximum of his possibilities, presenting all the best of his repertoire from |
|
the previous two years combined with the last 1972 new autobiografical song ranging in all musical genres as only he can do.
We are happy to be able to associate great performance with great audio quality in order to be able to obtain a result that you can enjoy too.
The ambiance tapes are both of very good quality, as you can appreciate both Elvis and the band and at the same time you can feel and live the live atmosphere of the intimate Las Vegas Showroom.
The shows has already said are great, we have some a few variations in the songs, this for sure make more interesting the listen of both the shows, See See Rider is back as opener song and the show now consist in a solid collection of great quality songs all well performed . Two new addictions at the repertoire : What Now My Love and My Way . Due to Elvis’ moment two sentimental&life songs no randomly chosen. However talking about best song we like to say that the rockin’ side is still present in Elvis and Polk Salad Annie never sounded better: both Elvis and the band are pushing strong with a great job of Jerry Cheff bass guitar.
This new SR special Product will be housed in a deluxe 300 grams single sleeve that includes together the 180 grams vinyl, two Bonus CD and bonus high glossy 300 grams 30x30 cm Art Card both sides printed.

'Elvis 42 Years Before & After' New Import: A future CD with an interesting theme. EIN believes it will be coming out of Europe.
... Elvis achieved many musical highs, however his career didn’t end at age 42 in 1977.
The first disc of this double Cd set brings you all the most important recordings and hits from his lifetime. From Elvis’ 1954 debut at the Sun label through to the 'Elvis In Concert' 1977 CBS TV special.
The second disc contains the stuff that has kept his name and legacy alive some 42 years after that fatal day in August 1977. From Felton Jarvis' 1980 Re-Recording session through to 2018 Where No One Stands Alone duet with Lisa-Marie Presley.
It is a journey through new songs, remakes and remixes, a live recording from Elvis The Concert World Tour and finally duets with well-known artists and his daughter Lisa Marie Presley.
EIN loves the "Sgt Pepper" cover image!

'First In Line Vol. 2' New Import: Out now 'First In Line Vol.2' from MxF Records focusses on Elvis’ January & February 1974 Vegas season, featuring the midnight show January 30th and the evening show February 8th, 1974, both the shows previously unreleased and from the original AUDIENCE high-quality tape.
Elvis’ tolerance for Vegas has reached its limit in the previous august 1973 season so after the deserved rest of 5 months, Elvis is back in Las Vegas Hilton. According to the new contract, He will perform twice a year, but only two weeks at a time rather than the previous four. The repertoire was reduced compared to the previous season to 15/20 songs with three new additions: Help me, Spanish Eyes and the popular Let Me Be There. The choice of songs in the different shows varied little, but due the 9 days of the distance of the two shows here presented we have some a few variations in the songs, this for sure make more interesting the listen of both the shows.
Both the AUDIENCE tapes are of very good quality, as you can appreciate both Elvis and the band and at the same time you can feel and live the live atmosphere of the intimate Las Vegas Showroom.
In the first show closer to the opening of the season we still have the splendid You’ve Lost The Loving Feeling dropped 9 days later, with the inclusion of Sweet Caroline, the classic Johnny B. Good and the sentimental The First Time Ever I saw your Face.. longer show and slightly better in the audio quality and for this reason included in the LP.
This new MxF special Product will be housed in a deluxe 300 grams single sleeve that includes
together with the 150 grams vinyl, the two Bonus CDs and bonus high glossy 130 grams 60x30 cm Poster both sides printed. |

'The ELVIS Movie' New STAR DVD: A new DVD from the STAR label, 'The ELVIS Movie' starring Kurt Russell but with the soundtrack of Elvis Presley!
It's the same story but the performances have made an incredible upgrade!
STAR keeps surprising fans worldwide, this time they have chosen something "risky" but they deliver once more!
They have replaced Ronnie McDowell's soundtrack with the only singer that should have been there in the first place ELVIS!
Lots more music is included and the whole film has a more modern touch then before and can now compete with blockbusters like "Walk the Line" and "Great Balls of Fire"
Rare live versions and outtakes were handpicked to find the best matching songs for the scenes.
Kurt Russell's lip-syncing looks much more natural and real then before, and how cool it is to hear the actual radio broadcast (Dewey Philips) from the time when "That's All Right" was first played on the air, or to hear "The Blackwood Brothers" at the funeral of Elvis his mother Gladys.
After 40 years the movie finally is ELVIS!

'The Guitar Player Worth A Damn' New Venus release: The DVD/CD/Book combo 'The Guitar Player Worth A Damn' "The King In Motion vol. 4" is out now from the reliable Venus label.
Their publicity notes, 'The Best Elvis Movie of All Time' - Elvis' renaissance as a contemporary artist received special recognition in January 1973, when "Elvis On Tour" shared a golden globe "Best Documentary Film" award with another film, "Walls of Fire". A lot of MGM footage went unused in the final edit, and remained unseen for a number of years ... until now!!
Presented here is a qualified revamp of "Elvis On Tour," compiled from hours of unreleased footage. Taken from the best sources available, this professionally-restored movie will astound you for almost 95 minutes.
Also included in this set is a CD of the never-before-released Hampton Roads afternoon show from April 9, 1972, digitally restored from the original ambience tape.
As an additional bonus, we also offer an unreleased alternate mix of the Greensboro performance from April 14, 1972.
The book is filled with scores of unpublished and rare photographs from April 1972.
EIN Notes - To be honest there is very little here that we haven't seen already, after all the bootleg barrel is very empty. However like their previous 1971 combo 'Tearing 'Em Up! 1971' this is will no doubt be a well produced upgrade of what we already have.
The never-before-released Hampton Roads afternoon show is also an AUDIENCE recording so it better be of fine audio quality otherwise it won't be worth playing more than once.
Of course most collectors will have bought the fabulous AMIGA On-Tour Deluxe coffee-table set of similar material so the VENUS April "rare" photos promised here better not be a repeat.
The DVD looks a fine compilation even though everything appears to have been previously released. . |

'Love My Teddy Bear Tender' New Import CD: Live at the International Hotel, Las Vegas, NV, September 3rd, 1971, the AUDIENCE recorded Dinner show. While some of Elvis import labels are just re-releasing previously issued and repackaged stuff, the always reliable E. P. Collector label is always looking for something new to release. We are always reaching out to people in order to find new material, and if it's interesting, we will purchase it, even if the sound is not studio perfect. In recent months we were in touch with a couple of fans who recorded a number of interesting concerts, which now enables us to release two more surprises.
The first new release is titled 'Love My Teddy Bear Tender' (EPC 2019-22) and it brings us the Las Vegas, September 3rd, 1971 Dinner show. You'll have to forgive us for the somewhat clumsy title, but maybe you'll understand when we tell you that it contains a sensational concert rarity! During this concert, he sings "Love Me Tender" to the tune of "Teddy Bear"!! He only did this once, during this concert, and now for the first time you can hear this amazing discovery!!! Who would think that we would still be getting surprises like this in 2019?!
Concert recordings from '71 are hard to come by these days, especially unreleased ones. During this season, Elvis was on fire, and his setlist was varied and strong. Near the end of the engagement, his shows were a bit looser, and this one is a real delight. This concert recording is a completely new show, even for the hardcore fans. The audio was mastered from an original audience recorded cassette tape. Digipack with a press review and a collection of images taken in Las Vegas, NV, in August /September 1971. |

'Knoxville Knockout' New Import CD: Live at the UOT Stokely Arena, Knoxville, TN, April 8, 1972 AUDIENCE recorded Evening show. EP's second new CD is titled 'Knoxville Knockout' (EPC 2019-23).
Just as our first release, the Knoxville, TN, April 8, 1972 8:30 pm evening show is previously unreleased and moreover, it is completely a new show for all Elvis die-hard fans: again, never before in circulation, in any form! Interestingly enough, RCA was there to record, but their tape recorder malfunctioned. Now you can finally hear what RCA tried to record!!
This concert is taken from a recently discovered original audience recorded cassette tape. Unfortunately, "An American Trilogy" is incomplete, and it is possible that there's is one song missing, just before the "Can't Help Falling In Love" finale.
As we've come to expect from the April '72 shows, Elvis is in excellent form. And what a rare treat to finally get an audience recorded tape from this highly regarded tour! Elvis is firing on all cylinders. He knocks "How Great Thou Art" out of the ballpark. Wow, just wow!!
Packaged in a nicely designed digipack with excerpts from a local press review and a collection of images taken on tour in April, 1972, including a couple of real, very rare Knoxville show shots. |

'You're Driving Me Crazy' MRS Vinyl Promo: MRS have now released 'You're Driving Me Crazy' (Anita Wood calls Elvis Presley) a one-sided vinyl 'Promo LP Track' to help advertise their new 6CD/Book combo 'Elvis: Back In Living Stereo'. This is surely one of the strangest Elvis collectable's ever to be released.
It features a 25 minute phone conversation between Anita Wood and Elvis that she recorded in 1961 when she was becoming suspicious of Elvis not being faithful to her.
Worth noting is that because it is a phone conversation recorded in 1961 the audio quality is terrible.
More importantly in this new "Me Too" era Elvis comes off as arrogant, angry and not the charming man all his fans want him to be.
Anita Wood has since stated that she wished she had never made the phone call and it is interesting that in the low-tech early 60s she had decided to record the conversation. You can feel that she was setting Elvis up as she keeps on pushing him for better answers to tricky questions. |
|
What Anita Wood hoped to prove (or record) I have no idea.
Most people at some time or another wish they hadn't said such stupid things to their friends / partners and this feels like such a private conversation I doubt if fans would ever want to listen to it more than once.
Whether this private phone conversation should ever have been released is a debatable point. My personal feeling is that it will be sad interruption in the otherwise glorious up-coming MRS box-set of Elvis' early 60s recordings.
However there is no doubt that this vinyl promo release will become a real Elvis collectable.
You can hear more discussion about this new track in the most recent 'Elvis Express' radio show.

'Elvis: From Hollywood To Nashville' MRS Vinyl review: Released just in time for my birthday MRS has put out a limited edition vinyl compilation 'Elvis: From Hollywood To Nashville - The Essential 1957-58 Studio Masters'.
Featuring a delicious selection of Elvis' studio work from 1957 until he he got "drafted & shafted" in 1958, this album basically features all his studio recordings - except for the movie soundtracks and the ubiquitous Christmas album.
From 'All Shook Up' to 'I Got Stung' Elvis was riding a creative peak.
With a limited pressing of 1,000 copies, 400 in Clear Vinyl and 600 in Black vinyl this is a treat.
EIN grabbed a copy and played it loud - go here for our review.

'Elvis By Request of Japanese Fans' New Import CD: The publicity notes... Originally released as a 4 LP set in 1980 this set has always been a fan favorite. (EIN, Really??) Not only this is one of the best compiled Elvis releases of all time, but also the cover art drew some attention. Many times referred to as the “tear” cover this set can be found in many serious Elvis collections. It’s a stunning beauty. And now this wonderful box set is available on cd.
Presented in a clamshell box set including the original lp set on 3 cds plus a fantastic bonus cd containing rare or hard to find recordings. The set contains the original tracks as released on the 1980 Japanese lp set. So for the first time you can find some original electronic stereo tracks on cd. A fantastic set full of fan favorites which will be in your player for a long long time.
EIN notes: The bootleg market is scraping the bottom of the barrel to make a buck. This comes from no reputable label and any Elvis collector could surely compile the same tracklist. And in any case the song selection is all over the place with, for instance, 'You Gave Me A Mountain' followed by 'Mary In The Morning', 'Blue Suede Shoes' and 'That’s All Right' (both in "electronic stereo"!) before 'The Wonder Of You', 'Early Morning Rain' and 'All Shook Up'. It truly doesn't play well at all!

'Out In Hollywood Vol.3' New Import CD: Another alternate compilation from "Meant to be Played" label. Elvis in Hollywood, hard to find outtakes and new edits, presented in a deluxe digipack edition.
Another collection of 22 great songs, most are hard to find, or released on cds where you get so many takes of the same song, you probably only have heard them once, or more likely... never.
Also included are some cool UNRELEASED tracks like "Poor Boy" which is an alternate master and "Stay Away" which has the harmonica intro followed by the master take, the sound is much better than the actual movie version.

'ELVIS: The Danish Singles Collection Vol.1' New Vinyl: Recently announced by Graceland Randers 'ELVIS: The Danish Singles Collection Vol.1'.
The idea behind the release was to have a discography that was a little different, and the Danish singles were certainly that.
There's a whole generation of fans that have grown up never hearing the original vinyl sound of Elvis, so these are how the tunes sounded when first released, complete with compression, and some of them really rock !
As good as our modern releases are we've kind of lost a little bit of history, and we wanted to put that back.
What we present here is that original vinyl sound, first heard when these tracks were originally released.
Sit back, relax, listen and enjoy the original sound of Elvis !'
Volume one is already selling fast. - Numbered limited edition of 300.

'Viva Las Vegas' Spliced takes New Import CD: With rather poor timing - see FTD Viva Las Vegas news above, CMT is proud to present their latest addition to this great series.
This time they choose to do the "fan favorite" "Viva Las Vegas" including 15 unreleased new spliced takes!
All songs from the movie are included, so besides the Elvis tracks, you also get the Ann Margret Songs and "The Climb" performed by George McFadden
One of the highlight probably is the "longer" version of "If You Think..." it has been created using 8 splices and includes multiple sax solo's
"Do the Vega" has been giving an extra "touch" by repeating the "Shake like a son...." portion which makes it sound more up to date and modern.
"Santa Lucia" has a longer intro and extra instrumental break. The title track also sound very different due to the use of 3 takes and 4 splices.
As always you get a lot of value in these releases, since almost everything sounds very different then usual without fake remixes.
"If you think you don't need this release.... then baby you're wrong!"

'Green Peppers, Onions And Catfish' New Import: A new release from the E. P. Collector label, Elvis' Norfolk, July 20th, 1975 8:30pm show AUDIENCE RECORDING previously unreleased and it was never before available in complete form and in solid quality! There is an old CDR in circuit of absolutely horrible sound and moreover, it's missing the last couple of songs. Now is a good time to throw this one into garbage can and grab the ultimate version!
As almost every fan knows, Elvis' July ’75 tour is rated as one of the best Elvis tours ever. The shows were longer and the playlists variable. Vocally, Elvis was in TOP shape. Two dynamic, rocking shows in Norfolk are no exception. Yes there was the (in) famous so called “catfish” incident - but, as usual, the whole story was exaggerated. Among the highlights there are „The Wonder Of You,” „Polk Salad Annie,” „ T-R-O-U-B-L-E,” „How Great Thou Art,” and „It’s Now Or Never.” One song stands out - one of the very last performances of Chuck Berry’s great „Promised Land.”
This concert is taken from a recently found first generation copy of an original audience recorded cassette tape, recorded by a well known American fan. You may ask your supplier for samples.
This CD is packaged in a nicely designed digipack with collection of images taken by Len Leech in Norfolk, VA, 1975 E/S. It’s our first 1975 release and we hope to bring you more! |

'Softly, As I Leave You' New Import: Also from E. P. Collector label is 'Softly, As I Leave You' Elvis' Las Vegas, August 23rd, 1974 Dinner show AUDIENCE RECORDING, previously unreleased. This concert is taken from an early generation copy of an original audience recorded cassette tape which was never in circulation! Sound is excellent for an off - line source. Unfortunately, the last 3 songs were not recorded. Instead of using a very poor sounding secondary source of the same show (missing the last song "Can't Help Falling In Love," anyway), we have decided to add same songs from the August 23rd, 1974 Midnight show tape which is of similar quality as the August 23rd, 1974 Dinner show. As usual, you may ask your supplier for samples.
The playlist is rather typical for August ’74 shows. Among the concert highlights, there are „It's Midnight,“ ”I'm Leavin',” of course ”Softly, As I Leave You”, a great version of “You Gave Me A Mountain” and a funky ”If You Talk In Your Sleep.”
This CD is packaged in a nicely designed digipack with a collection of great images taken during the August/September 1974 concerts. |

'Friday Night Lights' New Import CD: A new release from the Straight Arrow label - AUDIENCE RECORDINGS - and a direct follow-up to our July release called 'Kentucky Rain'
The Las Vegas, February 20th, 1970 Dinner show was previously released by the "SR" label from an inferior, basically unlistenable source. The show was incomplete with cuts and running way too slow.
Now you have a chance to listen to this fantastic concert in the best possible quality, for the first time.
The Las Vegas, February 20th, 1970 Midnight show is previously unreleased and it was never available in good quality and in complete
form - until now! It is one of greatest Elvis shows ever with “Polk Salad Annie” and “Suspicious Minds” being reprised!!
We decided to add 5 bonus tracks, recorded during the February 21st, 1970 Dinner show. These tracks were never available in decent sound quality either. This recording includes the one-liner of the Pat Boone hit "When the Swallows Come Back to Capistrano." Unfortunately, no more tracks from this concert were taped.
All material (incl. the bonus tracks) presented on this release was recorded by same person. This release is presented in a de-luxe 8-panel digipak, with a collection of photos taken in Las Vegas, NV, February 1970 as well as a press review. |

'Singer Presents Elvis' Import Re-Release: This bootleg set was first released in 2011 and sold out immediately, mainly because of the many completely unreleased tracks. Most of these tracks are still only available on this set and we’ve got a lot of request for this CD. So we decided to make a low budget version and give everyone the possibility to own these recording on the label that made them available. As with all Venus releases all tracks are uncut and the sound is top notch!

'The European Side Of Elvis / Words And Music' New Import CD: Housed in a beautiful slipcase is a 6 panel digipack with 2 rare albums. The publicity notes... This limited Edition collectors pack contains masters and rare alternate tracks.
"Words and Music" was only released on CD in Australia in the mid 80's and is very hard to find these days. We present it here with rare bonus tracks and mixed with Elvis quotes just like the original release.
"The European Side Of Elvis" was never released on CD.
All tracks on this album are rare alternate tracks !
This stunning new release is a great addition to your Elvis CD collection !
EIN Notes -This is the sound of the barrel being scraped- to describe the tracks on "The European Side Of Elvis" as rare alternate tracks is ridiculous...
'It's Now Or Never (undubbed master) & 'Surrender (spliced take 7)' are both on the FTD Elvis' Golden Records Vol3 ... 'You Don't have To Say You Love Me (take 2)' is on the FTD 'That's The Way It Is'.... Ask Me (rejected 1963 master) is on the FTD 'Elvis Sings Memphis Tennessee' etc etc

'ELVIS: American Sound 1969' FTD 5CD Box-Set: To celebrate FTD’s 20th Anniversary, FTD is pleased to announce the release of 'ELVIS: AMERICAN SOUND 1969' a 5CD Deluxe Complete sessions release.
Keen collectors were disappointed when the recent 'American Sound 1969' was announced as a DIGITAL release only for the general public. The Memphis 1969 session collection features over 90 tracks of rare and unreleased material from Elvis’ 1969 American Sound Studio sessions, which resulted in his From Elvis In Memphis record later that year. From Elvis In Memphis ranks among Elvis’ most universally beloved records, spawning the iconic hit 'In The Ghetto'. However FTD have the solution...
With 'Suspicious Minds' celebrating its 50th Anniversary on August 26th 2019, Elvis’ pivotal Year of 1969 can be celebrated with 'Elvis: American Sound 1969' a deluxe box-set featuring all known and previously unreleased outtakes from the legendary American Sound Sessions, Including “In The Ghetto” and “Suspicious Minds”.
This 5-CD set that’s part of FTD’s new ‘Sessions’ series, includes a 28-page booklet with rare photos and memorabilia.
Go here to 'FTD Releases' for the full-tracklist.
EIN notes that in all honesty only a very few outtakes have not yet been released by FTD and these are...
Long Black Limousine – Takes 1,2,3 & 5
Wearin’ That Loved On Look – Takes 1,2, & 5
You’ll Think Of Me – Takes 11, 19, 20 & 22
In The Ghetto – Takes 5-10
.... and that is all. |
|
However to have all these session gathered together on a 5 disc set with 28-page booklet plus uniform remastering makes this an essential collector's purchase if you can afford it.

‘Elvis Sings Memphis Tennessee’ FTD Double-Vinyl: FTD is pleased to announce the release of “Elvis Sings Memphis Tennessee” limited edition, a double-vinyl set.
The album contains great alternative versions of songs from The Lost Album sessions in May 1963 and January 1964.
Mastered at Abbey Road Studios, the album is released in 180-gram format.
EIN Notes: This double-album looks a real stunner with tracks such as 'Memphis, Tennessee', 'Echoes Of Love', 'Please Don't Drag That String Around', 'Devil In Disguise', 'What Now, What Next, Where To', 'Blue River' and 'It Hurts Me' all on the same album.
Go here to 'FTD / SONY CD News' for the full-tracklist.

'The Fun In Acapulco Sessions' Deluxe FTD Review: Released by FTD back in March 'The Fun In Acapulco Sessions' is a 3-CD set that the publicity noted included more than an hour of previously unreleased false starts and complete takes!
The 28-page booklet includes rare photographs, memorabilia, session data, Movie Trivia and an updated overview of the movie by Alan Hanson - with all tracks recently remixed and remastered.
A Mexican locale, some Tijuana horns, plus the interesting presence of the Mexican ‘Amigos’ at the recording sessions presented a novel setting for Elvis.
If you like Elvis, sunny locations, sixties movies packed full of songs and the Latino sound then there is no doubt that Fun In Acapulco must be one of your favourites.
But 56 years after the original album and movie can there really be that much of interest left in the vault unreleased?
EIN's Piers Beagley investigates this massive set, discovers all the Previously Unreleased Delights - and wonders if 33 minutes of Guadalajara might be too much for some...
A FTD Deluxe set deserves a proper review and EIN gives you 4000 words plus to see if you really need to add this limited release to your collection!

'Elvis Sessions From Clambake' Import 3CD Set: Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and rather amusingly bootleg lable Victrola is proud to present an ultimate 3CD-set of Elvis’ “Clambake” sessions. It is called simply “Elvis Sessions From Clambake” and all these recordings including the masters came from the same 1989 DAT source tapes just as our very successful 2018 “Avventura In Oriente” 3CD release. We have decided to give that album a worthy follow up! What makes this new release special? Most tracks have been released before, but never before in such pristine quality!!!
Clambake the movie was definitely not Elvis’ finest moment but the soundtrack from 1967 does have some noteworthy songs. Elvis was tired of making the same movies again and again and it's around this time that they had to force him to come to the studio.
Elvis was looking for new challenges, as can be heard in the famous “Guitar Man” sessions. Victrola team is happy to bring you a lot of material with several unreleased outtakes of these sessions including stereo takes which were previously only available in mono.
|
|
Also presented here for the very first time are the “U. S. Male” outtakes which have only been released on an old CD called “Going Home” which was heavily noise reduced, resulting in a very unnatural, artificial sound. Finally, we present this session material the right way!
For the first time also we release the stereo versions of home recordings “500 Miles” and “Blowing In The Wind”!
All tracks have been digitally restored and mastered in a renowned sound studio. This 3CD-set is presented in a stunning looking digipack. Do not miss your opportunity to obtain an ultimate “Clambake” release. If you enjoyed our “Avventura In Oriente” then we are absolutely sure that you will love our new 3CD-set too!
EIN truly doubts that FTD will ever release 'The Complete Clambake Sessions' so here's your chance. |

'6363 SUNSET - VOLUME 2' Import CD: Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery - we all remember the "good old days" when FTD released their first releases like "The Jungle Room Sessions", "Fame and Fortune" and "Out in Hollywood".
Those cds were in our players for weeks, due to all the unreleased stuff, great sound quality and last but not least the fact there were a lot of complete outtakes never heard before.
After a while, although the releases were still fantastic, we got more and more cds with lots of outtakes from the same songs, great for collecting, but listening pleasure was a bit less fun... The second release from MTP records is out now and will be another fan favorite!
Included are some very hard to find outtakes and rehearsals recorded at RCA's Hollywood, California studios.
This time, not only do we get tracks from '72 and '75 since there are also some essential tracks from the August 16, 1974 rehearsal, where Elvis made a completely new line up for his upcoming engagement. Also included are some rare string overdubbed versions from the May 8, 1972 session.
This new release is as good as the first and is "Meant to be Played" |

'ELVIS - Kentucky Rain' New Import CD: This year the Straight Arrow label team promises to focus especially on the concert years 1969-1972. The first CD 'ELVIS - Kentucky Rain' features the February 22nd, 1970 Midnight Las Vegas show is a previously unreleased concert, taken directly from an original audience recorded master tape. This concert was never available in good sound quality thus far (note: in 2007, the "SR" label released a so-called February 22nd, 1970 Midnight show on the "Rock In Black" double CD, but this show was wrongly dated and in fact it was the February 23rd, 1970 Dinner show!)
The February 22nd, 1970 Midnight show recording is slightly incomplete, missing the last song "Can't Help Falling In Love", so we have included this song in the same good sound, as taken from the February 20th, 1970 Dinner show, to make the concert "complete" for listeners' comfort.
As usual, this release is presented in a de-luxe 6-panel digipak, with a collection of photos taken in Las Vegas, NV, February 1970 and a press review. |

Track 19 taken from February 20th, 1970 Dinner show. |
'Like A Greek God' New Import CD: Straight Arrow's second release is titled 'Like A Greek God'. The September 4th, 1970 Midnight show is a previously unreleased concert, taken from an original audience recorded tape. In 2005, the "Memory Records" label used 6 tracks from this tape as a bonus for "The Midnight Hour" CD. Unfortunately, the August 4th, 1970 Midnight show is incomplete, missing the last 3 songs. We have decided to add the same songs as taken from the September 5th, 1970 Midnight show to make the show "complete" for listeners' comfort.
The September 7th, 1970 Closing night was released by the "SR" label in 2008 in very poor, muffled sound, taken from a degraded x-generation copy (the "September Nights" CD). Once again we have used an original master tape and restored it to crisp, clear perfection. Elvis' crazy Closing night performance never sounded better - until NOW!
Both concerts presented on this release were recorded by same person. This release is presented in a de-luxe 8-panel digipak, with a collection of photos taken in Las Vegas, NV, August 1970 and a press review. |

'I Do A Lot O’ Things, But I Can’t Fly!' New Import CD: Missed news from 2 weeks ago, the Touchdown label proudly presents another AUDIENCE RECORDING from Elvis' August / September engagement in 1971, recorded on the dinner show on August 20, 1971.
The tracklisting is enjoyable and so is Elvis!
Tracks include Proud Mary, Sweet Caroline, Polk Salad Annie and I‘m Leavin‘ even a one-liner of 'So High'
We worked hard to improve the sound quality and hope that you'll enjoy the result as much as we do.
As usual the CD is accompanied by a full-color 16 page booklet with lots of rare photos and information on the event itself.
EIN Notes that this concert was previously out on CDR

'Welcome To South Bend, Indiana' New Import CD: A new release from the Verve label. This time Verve present the soundboard recording from October 20, 1976 in South Bend.
Also the show was released before - it never sounded better than on this release!
Ask for samples!
The release comes with a 16-page booklet with reviews from the show and lots of photos from the two concerts were Elvis wore the so-called "Flame Suit“.
EIN notes that this was previously out as 'Eternal Flame' from the Lonestar label. A fair show from October 1976 but lacking the excitement of audience reaction in the recording.
FTD have officially released Elvis' October 14, 15, 16 and Oct 17 shows on 'Chicago Stadium', 'The Bicentennial Show', and 'A Minnesota Moment'

FTD 'Elvis: From Georgia To Florida 1975' OUT NOW: A new FTD double-soundboard release 'Elvis: From Georgia To Florida' featuring two concerts from April 1975 is OUT NOW.
Released as a 5" digipack, a 2CD set features Elvis in great form from his shows at the Coliseum in Macon on April 24, 1975 and previously unreleased Lakeland April 27, 1975 Afternoon Show.
The set-list is fine including Big Boss Man, It's Midnight, Promised Land, Burning Love, Help Me, My Boy, T-R-O-U-B-L-E and I'll Remember You.
EIN notes: If this looks familiar to fans it is because FTD released 'Elvis In Florida April 1975' back in 2014 which featured the Lakeland April 27, 1975 Evening Show.
Unfortunately soundboards from the start of this tour all have the same inherent 'problem' a HEAVY bias towards Piano.
First reports are that the new release has improved audio quality compared to when the tracks were first released on the otherwise excellent FTD compilation "Southern Nights" |

'Duets And Harmonies' New Import CD: Over the years there were many
duets released with Elvis, during his life, but even more after his
death , many "Stars" wanted to do a song with "The King" .
CMT is proud to present this incredible release, which has original duets, rare "harmony" versions and some newly made duets not released on any cd!
Duets include: Lisa Marie Presley, Connie Francis, Ray Charles, Cliff Richard, Anita Wood, Dale Watson, Kitty White, Charlie Hodge, Michael Buble, Nancy Sinatra, Ann Margret, J.D. Sumner, Barbara Streisand, Dolly Parton, Helene Fischer, Jerry Reed, Celine Dion, Shaun Nielsen, The Gatlin Brothers and Glen Cambell!
Just listen to the beautiful duet between Elvis and Dolly Parton, this version of "In the Ghetto" is very different from the original, and stands on it's own... it could have been a great release for a record, and without a doubt would have topped the charts! "Ray Charles" provides a great "orchestrated" version of "I'll Never Stand In Your Way" where a very young Elvis joins him as if he was singing along with the record at home, the same goes for "My Happiness" with "Connie Francis"
|
|
"Ike and Tina Turner" start of "easy" and Elvis takes over with a very "rough" rockin' version of "Proud Mary"
The 1958 duet "Crawfish" featuring Kitty White and Elvis has been re-edited now this really is a duet version which works very well!
Another highlight is the included version of "Softly, As I Leave You" .. "Michael Buble" sings the song, where Elvis recites the words.. in the end "Shaun Nielsen" joins in to make a breathtaking ending which leaves you with goosebumbs!
"JD Sumner" takes the lead, where "The Imperials" blend in to do the first part of "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" , then Elvis and "The Jordanaires" bring the song home!
Some harmony versions included in this set are also not to be missed! "Fever" has Elvis singing multiple verses at once which sounds very rare and unusual.
"Kissin' Cousins" combines both the "Hillbilly" overdub and the "Regular" overdub... this is the only release where "Josh and Jody" sing the whole song together!
"Baby, I Don't Care" has two very different sounding takes of Elvis, and does now sound like a nice duet!
Combine all these tracks with some great duets from earlier hard to find releases and you will have a very unusual new album including 28 tracks!
The artwork fits the release very well, inside all the stars have "signed" their autograph, giving it an authentic touch since it is made just like a record album with fold out sleeve.
EIN notes - Something must be in the water as this is the second Elvis Harmony CD on offer this month! |

'Out In Hollywood Vol.2' New Import CD: A new import from the MTP label. We all remember the "good old days" when FTD released their first releases like "The Jungle Room Sessions", "Fame and Fortune" and "Out in Hollywood".
Time for some action!
The new label " MTP " (Meant to be Played) is proud to present their first release: 'Out In Hollywood Volume 2' a release with some very rare and hard to find "complete" outtakes!
The artwork matches the original first release and has the same "feel" ... this looks to be a real winner!

'Elvis Sings The Harmony' New Import CD: Is this the sound of the barrel being scraped or Elvis singing "The Harmony"! For some reason the Reel Trax label is happy to be back, after more than a decade, with an album you could have compiled yourself.
It would have been a more professional job if the designer had a better grip of English!
Their publicity promises.. Elvis´ love for singing harmony has its roots in his love for gospel choirs. It is absolutely common and even necessary to be able to sing harmony when you do gospel songs, unless you are always on lead vocals. From the very early stages of his career the "King" never really needed to do any harmony part. He had his beloved "Jordanaires" with him who did a great job all of the time. Later on there were plenty of other background singers who always could do the job (and did it of course) absolutely fantastic! Maybe Elvis chose to do his own harmony in the recording studio on a couple of songs because he COULD do it (and very well for sure). Maybe he got the idea from his own "home recordings" which we know quite a few of (as early as 1958)? |
|
One thing is clear: First you have to have the ability to do it. There have been many singers in show business who have NOT been able to do their own harmony because they simply did not know how to do it (you´ve got to have an "ear" for that)! Elvis did a great job on all of the songs you hear on this brand new CD, there´s no doubt. The one which is best known is certainly the legendary 1969 recording "Suspicious Minds". But there sure is much more to explore on "Elvis Sings The Harmony" CD!
All tracks used for this project were taken from best possible sources available to date. Many of songs were individually restored and corrected and some are previously unreleased on CD. This unique release is presented in a de-luxe six-panel digipack with many unusual photos. |
Tracklist:
1 I'm Yours,

'Elvis: From Georgia To Florida' 1975 new FTD: A new FTD double-soundboard release 'Elvis: From Georgia To Florida' has been announced featuring two concerts from April 1975.
On the 'Elvis In Florida' release we noted that some of the tracks sounded almost a capella with only piano and backing-vocalists as accompaniment - there was often very little drums or orchestra in the mix.
Three tracks from Disc 1 Macon, April 24, were on the |
|
excellent FTD compilation "Southern Nights" however these had far from the best audio quality.
Our review noted, "The 3 tracks from Macon suffer from poorer audio but are obviously included for the powerful trilogy of 'Big Boss Man', 'It's Midnight' and 'Promised Land'. It is odd that Kathy Westmoreland's rather dominant vocal shows a clarity that is actually needed for the whole band! 'Promised Land' in particular suffers from the lack of rhythm section."
Sadly with the barrel of unreleased Elvis material getting near empty collectors have to be pleased that we get anything new at all.

MRS ‘The Complete ‘50s Movie Masters' VINYL Review: The MRS label released ‘The Complete ‘50s Movie Masters & Alternate Recordings’ for Record Store Day 2019.
The double LP set features one side of vinyl dedicated to each one of Elvis' four fifties movies and includes additional gems such as the STEREO 'Love Me Tender' recordings, 'Treat Me Nice' and 'Jailhouse Rock' in STEREO as well as the delightful 'Crawfish' Movie Master Edit from King Creole.
This was a neat idea, one side for each movie with a couple of extra bonus tracks, nice audio mastering plus a stylish 24-page massive inside booklet.
We get ‘Love Me Tender’ on one side with 7 tracks, ‘Loving You’ on Side B, ‘Jailhouse Rock’ as a sensational Side C and to my surprise all of ‘King Creole’ fitting neatly into the final side and with a cool Bonus Track not on the original RCA vinyl.
With the 24-page album-size gatefold booklet it truly is a stunning presentation.
Released on 180grm Vinyl and with quality audio remastering.

'From The Vault' 3CDs get Digital Release: The 'Elvis Presley - The Album Collection' released in 2016 included three extra 'Bonus' CDs featuring special tracks 'From The Vaults'. These have now been released on your favourite digital platform.
... Elvis Presley released nearly 60 albums and placed a record-setting 115 singles in Billboard’s Top 40 during his lifetime - and that’s just the tip of the iceberg, as these three collections showcase. Compiled for The Album Collection box set in 2016, Elvis fans of all stripes can discover exciting rarities and outtakes from his incredible |
|
career, featuring treasures from the Sun years, rare home recordings, duets, and late-period covers.
Click here to SONY for the links..
EIN's review of the 2016 box-set was however not impressed by these strange collections.
..Reviewer Shane Brown noted, "From The Vaults" should have been single-only sides and masters released after Elvis's death. And they would have been a fun listen. As it is, these final discs are a truly unmitigated mess, switching from poor sounding TV recordings to stellar sounding studio recordings to distorted private recordings and then back again. Fans already have this material, and the more general buyer is not likely to have any interest in it.. Go here for our full ''Album Collection" review and tracklisting

'Elvis - Made In Germany’ In-Depth Review: The new MRS 'Elvis - Made In Germany – The Complete Private Recordings’ 4CD set contains more than 3 hours of the private recordings Elvis made while off duty in Germany when he was serving as a soldier in the US army during the 1958 -1960 period and, includes rare tracks from a recently discovered tape comprising over an hour of unheard personal recordings.
The 152-page hardback book contains rare photographs and documents plus a comprehensive text provided by Gordon Minto, which discusses each of Elvis’ RCA studio (non-film) recording sessions held during 1957-58, before focusing on the private recordings he made in Germany.
The BONUS CD features the essential RCA studio masters from 1957-58.
With such an expansive book, along with hours of Elvis jamming with his friends in Germany, there is plenty to discuss as well as finding out what extra material this set contains over the official releases.
Go here as EIN's Nigel Patterson & Piers Beagley provide an in-depth review of this new MRS release

'Ghetto Power: Spliced Takes' New Import CD: The perfect alternate CD to help celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Elvis' Memphis Sessions. After last year's smash release 'STAX Power' CMT realised that this new release, made in the same editing style this will be the must-have 1969 release for its 50th anniversary!
With (almost) all of the 1969 Memphis outakes already officially released how can Elvis fans find something new for the 50th anniversary celebration? CMT provides the answer with all the stunning 69 tracks recorded and presented in a way as if it is one long session without pauses, this one kicks some serious Ass.
New splices create some extremely rare portions and extended versions and make them all sound brandnew! Also some Dubbed masters are spliced with Undubbed for a new listening experience.
Disc one starts of with a five (!) minute version of "Long Black Limousine" just listen to the emotion in his voice!
"This is the Story" has been created from the undubbed master, with some portions of the normal master, gives a totally new feel to the song.
|
|
A Little Bit of Green (4:28 minutes!) has an unusual rehearsal version spliced with some alternate takes, because of the slower pace of the rehearsal the producers have also slowed down these takes and it works very well, so you can enjoy a really different performance!
"Rubberneckin" rocks like never before due to the addition of the first "licks" of take 1
The extra chorus at the end of "Without Love" gives the song (if possible) an even more emotional "load"
"Suspicious Minds" includes a spliced version, some rehearsal portions and at the end we get the original master hit version... which was worth all the hard work and still rocks after all these years! -After almost 80 minutes it's time for disc two!
Again some cool extensions make them all sound very, very different.
"The Grass Won't Pay No Mind" (3:49 minutes) has been edited very cleverly at the end and brings you more "Elvis" then before. "Power of My Love" has a much longer intro, but due to the use of different takes (8 splices!) it all sounds very natural. On "Kentucky Rain" (5:22 minutes) Elvis does his own backing with the "Rain in my shoes" lyrics and the first verse has been repeated
We could go on, but almost all the tracks on this smash release sound new and fresh, and although every Elvis fan probably has at least 10 releases of these sessions.. This is the one we've been waiting 50 years for! |

'Strike Like Lightning!' New Import CD: The Straight Arrow label is back with its first release of 2019, titled 'Strike Like Lightning!', previously unreleased August 8th, 1969 M/S audience recording. We are aware of the fact that we have released 1974-1977 Elvis concerts of late. These releases were appreciated by the hardcore fans, but we strongly felt that the time had come for a change. On the 50th anniversary of Elvis' fantastic comeback in 1969, we are now able to release a tape that captures the electricity of that event. Until now, we had not released any 1969 live shows before, simply because most live tapes from that year are poor quality. Imagine our excitement when we got hold of a good sounding tape of a sensational gig from that magical year!
The August 8th, 1969 M/S is a previously unreleased recording, taken from a newly found audience recorded mastertape. This concert was never available in good sound quality thus far. There is a CDR with a so-called August 5th, 1969 M/S in circulation, which is the same concert, taken from an xxx-generation copy, but wrongly dated and in far inferior audio quality. Original cassette paperwork proves that this concert is definitely the August 8th, 1969 M/S! |
|
As a small bonus, we have decided to add 4 tracks, recorded during the August 27th, 1969 D/S. Two of these tracks were previously released by the "Victrola" label but were never before available in decent sound quality, before now.
As usual, this release is presented in a de-luxe 6-panel digipak, with a collection of photos taken in Las Vegas, NV, August 1969. Most of the photos were taken by Ann Moses, editor of Tiger Beat Magazine. Dig the psychedelic, period perfect artwork! As for the concert itself... wow, just wow! Elvis is groovy, sexy, earthy, charismatic, funny... And singing with real fire in his belly, never really heard again after this. Pure greatness.
It's a new Straight Arrow so you know what to expect! Every second was digitally restored, every click manually removed, every drop-out fixed to achieve optimal listening pleasure. Ask your local dealer for samples to judge for yourself!
In 2019, the Straight Arrow team will focus especially on the concert years 1969-1972, so stay tuned. We're just warming up! ... There's more comin'! |

'There's No Tomorrow' Import Vinyl: From SR Records, 'There's No Tomorrow' focusses on Elvis' August 1973 Vegas season, featuring the midnight show from August 10, 1973, previously unreleased Audience Recording taken directly from the original high quality tape.
The SR attitude is to present Elvis at the peak of his possibility and without any doubt Elvis' first week in Vegas August season still presents him at the top of his possibilities, delivering great shows. If Rock is an attitude, then the man still has it. The performances are terrific, rough and sharp.
Elvis' tolerance for Vegas has reached its limit in this season and the man will do nothing to hide it. But the beginning of the season is certainly promising and in this show in particular his enthusiasm shines through in every note . Elvis performs all the songs to the maximum of his possibilities, also pushing the band and giving the right time and presenting all the best of his repertoire ranging in all musical genres as only he can do.
We are happy to be able to associate great performance with great audio quality in order to be able to obtain a result that you can enjoy too. |
|
The ambiance tape is of very good quality, as you can appreciate both Elvis and the band and at the same time you can feel and live the live atmosphere of the intimate Las Vegas Showroom. The show has already said is great, starting from his latest single Steamroller Blues then with autobiographical You Gave a Mountain & My Boy then with the anthem An American Trilogy passing the best single of 1969, Suspicious Minds without forgetting the glorious fifties with Heartbreak Hotel and Mystery Train.... All the songs are very well performed. The Best song We can say I Can't Stop Loving You: both Elvis and the band are pushing strong with a great job of James Burton guitar.
This new SR special Product will be housed in a deluxe 300 grams single sleeve that includes together the 150 grams vinyl, a Bonus CD and bonus high glossy 300 grams 30x30 cm Art Card both sides printed.
In order to have a special collector's item, the 400 copies will be presented with FOUR different vinyl color VARIATIONS. All the copies will come with Glossy Sticker hand numbered and individually sealed and Please remember!! -

‘Guaranteed To Blow Your Mind’ New Vinyl Import: ‘Guaranteed To Blow Your Mind’ originally released in the late 90’s was the very first outing of the famous March 18, 1974 performance in Richmond Virginia. At the time it was probably the best sounding soundboard recording available. And it still is!
Luxor realizes the show was made available on vinyl before but as this is probably the best show of Elvis in 1974 we thought it just cannot be missed in the vinyl series of DAE / LUXOR.
The show is remastered and updated in the best way possible! This release is very limited and is available in red or blue vinyl presented in a gatefold sleeve. And of course the show is included on cd too. Get it while you can and add this awesome LUXOR product to your collection.

'The Best Of The '68 Comeback Special' CD Review: The original NBC TV Special featured Elvis playing with so much passion that it inspired a career renaissance
Released to cash-in on the recent “Elvis All-Star Tribute” one can only hope that the mass of Post Malone and Ed Sheeran fans will consider Elvis’ amazing musical legacy worth checking out.
Elvis never looked cooler than in the 68 Special and this surely has got to help.
The original ELVIS NBC soundtrack vinyl album was obviously the very first selected ‘Best Of’ while BMG’s marvellous 1998 “Memories” double-album was an expanded version. This new ‘Best Of’ has presumably been selected by Rob Santos and John Jackson.
Elvis was SO DAMN GOOD performing for the NBC TV special that any alternate edit has to be enjoyable so EIN thought it worth giving the new set a spin. With all of Elvis’ USA sales getting a positive bump after the new TV show we know that this new set is being played in a fair few homes.
EIN's Piers Beagley investigates, can another '68 ComeBack Special compilation really be worth buying all over again?
and Have Your Say! Does this really help Elvis' great legacy...

'Return To Sender '76' New Import CD: Audionics label is back with its first release of 2019, called 'Return To Sender... the Summer of '76'.
Elvis first played Hampton Roads, VA on April 9th, 1972, two shows in a day. It was the beginning of his phenomenal April tour and the Hampton Roads evening show was filmed by MGM for the "Elvis On Tour" documentary. Elvis returned to Hampton Roads Coliseum on March 11th, 1974, and then again in 1976, for two shows on July 31st and August 1st 1976 matinee. It was his final appearance there.
1976 was a special year for the United States of America. The Bicentennial Year, the two-hundredth anniversary of this great nation. Most Americans wanted to show their patriotism in some way. Elvis wanted to spread a positive message about his country throughout this special year, and so he decided to add "America The Beautiful" to his set-list.
The August 1st, 1976 concert has often been described as a rather poor Elvis show - not because he was "out of it" or medicated - but because his voice was far from its best. Admittedly, it is true that his voice sounded tired, even flat in places, but still, Elvis did a solid job on several songs and his audience definitely enjoyed the show. |
|
Nevertheless, there's no need to deny the fact that Elvis' vocal was far from perfect. It's equally obvious that Elvis was aware, too, because he told to his audience almost apologetically, "We had a late show last night, and I only got two hours of sleep" and "Good afternoon! God that sounds strange 'good afternoon'... I just got up!" Yup, the August 1st concert was a 2:30pm show, which was unusual as there was no 8:30pm show that day. Actually, the infamous Houston, August 28th, 1976 show was also a 2:30pm matinee, and after these shows, management decided not to program any afternoon shows in the future.
The Hampton Roads show has one saving grace: Elvis decided to respond to the audience request for "Return To Sender", which was an impromptu performance, and a true live rarity. Elvis sings it reasonably well and it was the highlight of the concert.
This show was originally released by the "Fort Baxter" label in 1995 and then re-released by "Gravel Road Music" label in 2012). "Gravel Road Music" label used the original Ft. Baxter CD as a source.
For this ultimate reissue, the Audionics team worked directly from a first generation soundboard tape transfer (RCA tape T0199) and made significant improvements to the audio. Both previous releases suffer from too much of reverb and compression. Audionics was able to work from the unprocessed and complete recording, which gives a more nuanced view of the concert. The original release on Ft. Baxter label was heavily compressed, which made Elvis' voice sound worse. We're not saying that this is now a fabulous concert, but the truth has many nuances, and this more natural sounding tape shows that despite some challenges, Elvis did a solid job and entertained the crowd that afternoon.
Both previous releases were slightly incomplete, a part of Elvis' introduction of The Stamps was edited out, and the Closing Vamp was faded out very early. Our new release is the first to present this recording 100% complete as recorded, and the Closing Vamp is now also complete, including the after show announcements: certainly proof that we went back to the original tape. Most important, the sound is now far more natural too, and with much better dynamics.
As a bonus, Audionics decided to add small collection of songs recorded during 1976 Summer tours. Tracks 29 & 30 were previously released on The Final Homecoming" 2CD (by Audionics, 2009), track 31 was released on "Houston We Have A Problem" CD (again Audionics 2013). All bonus tracks were newly restored and mastered from scratch.
This CD is presented in 3-panel digipak. Due to the lack of quality photographs from the Hampton Roads concert, great collection of various high quality concert shots from Summer of 1976 has been used.
This recording never sounded better. You may ask your import CD dealer for audio samples.

'Elvis: St Paul To Wichita: Oct 1974' FTD In-Depth Review: A live soundboard 5” double-digipack this time focussing on Elvis' Tour 12 which went from September 27 to October 9.
Two concerts St. Paul, Minnesota October 3, 1974 and Wichita, Kansas October 7, 1974 are included with three bonus songs from October 4, 1974.
Best of all these are both previously unreleased soundboards.
While Elvis had performed some memorable shows earlier in 1974, the September-October 1974 tour was not one of his best, with highlights sparsely dotted across the shows. The infamous College Park performance was during this tour, but by October 3 it was clear Elvis was up and enjoying himself.
In high energy and good humour Elvis at one point jokes, "By God, you might have been wrong for so long, but you were right tonight J.D!"
The soundboard audio quality is excellent.

'First In Line' New Import CD: MxF Records announces 'First In Line' featuring both the shows performed by Elvis in Las Vegas NV, Hilton Hotel on February 1st 1974 DS & MS. Both the previously unreleased shows are taken directly from AUDIENCE RECORDINGS.
After the deserved rest of 5 months, Elvis is back in Las Vegas Hilton. A new contract has been signed by Elvis, he wants to perform twice a year, but only two weeks at a time rather than the previous four. Starting from January 12th Elvis starts the rehearsal of his 10th Las Vegas Season, on Saturday 26th He opened the season dressed in a white jumpsuit in good spirit and in good shape too. The repertoire was reduced compared to the previous season to 15/20 songs with three new additions: Help me, Spanish Eyes and the popular Let Me Be There. The choice of songs in the different shows varied little, in particular in the two shows here presented the only variation is the song The First Time Ever I Saw your face that replaces the now classic Let Me Be There in the Midnight Show. |
|
Speaking about the two unreleased shows, they are very similar, the track list is minimized and the shows are practically identical, but we are talking about of two concerts of very good quality and well performed with the audience very pleased by the shows. Elvis is bringing back the rocker Polk Salad Annie and his performing of the classic Trying To get To You never sounded better, searching the best song is very hard because all the songs are very well performed, but for sure Elvis' joy while performing the popular Let Me Be There is undeniable, often singing also the reprise.
The sound is very good for ambient recordings, we have on our hands the original mono tapes of extremely good quality enabling us to carry out a simple re-mastering work, concentrating on the reduction of noise, hiss, and clicks, but we always give priority to the integrity of the original recording, trying to achieve a clearer sound in spite of the background noise. The result is a pretty dynamic tape with a great definition of the background music and you definitely can live the atmosphere of an Elvis' concert in the seventies.
This new SR special Product will be housed in a deluxe LONG DIGIPACK, containing 8 pages of a foldout booklet that in one side opening gives life to a great poster, while the backside is full of backstage photos of the season with classic memorabilia and newspaper clippings plus a high glossy paper bonus art card of 25x13 cm of size.
To have a special collector's item, the 400 copies will be presented with four different sleeve VARIATIONS. The variations will also be extended to the internal poster and to the coloring of the digipack spine. All the copies will come hand numbered and individually sealed and please remember!!
NOTE: Some collectors have complained to EIN about the quality of MxF audience releases before - Please CHECK SAMPLES before buying.

'Virginia Is For Elvis Lovers' New Import CD: Now the story gets very interesting. 'Virginia Is For Elvis Lovers' is the new release from the Black Diamond label - it features Elvis' stunning Richmond show from April 10, 1972. This is the same show that is coming out soon on the VICTROLA label but according to Black Diamond they have a far superior sound quality.
New label BLACK DIAMOND kicks off with it´s first release of a show originally recorded for the 1972 movie "ON TOUR“. This show has been taken from a digital copy of a rough stereo mix made from the original multitrack tapes some years ago.
The sound on this CD has been professionally remastered to achieve optimum audio quality.
We are aware that this show will also be released by the VICTROLA label (see news below) ... BUT.. after listening to their previous release of the Greensboro show, we think that the remastering has not been done properly. It simply was a digital overkill with way too much compression, muffled sound and a lack of separation. You can expect the same digital overkill on their forthcoming Richmond release! Our competitors even swapped the stereo channels which means that the piano comes out of the right speaker.... Which is completely wrong !
Please note that Black DIAMOND remastered this show from a digital copy of the very same source tape that our competitors used for their release. We are sure the difference is amazing. |
|
|
|
On BLACK DIAMOND the sound is crisp and clear with all instruments clearly audible. And Elvis´ voice sounds much more natural than on the other label. They achieved a some kind of artificial sound. Not very enjoyable...
So if you want to add this show to your collection in the best quality ever then BLACK DIAMOND should be your choice. You won´t be disappointed!
CHECK with your Elvis Dealers for audio sample comparisons between the sound on Victrola and Black Diamond. Or please judge for yourself with a S Minds sample here
EIN Notes - WOW, and we were happy with the recent AMIGA upgraded version!

'Elvis - April 10 1972, Richmond' New Import CD: The Victrola label announces Elvis’ powerhouse concert in Richmond Coliseum on April 10th 1972. A fantastic double CD album taken from the original 8 and 16 track master tapes!
The April 10, 1972 Richmond, VA concert was released several times by various labels. Only two releases stands out: original 1995 Vicky label CD ‘Carry Me Back To Old Virginia’ - first ever release of this show in mono and 2008 Madison label CD ‘Red Hot In Richmond’ - first release in original 1972 narrow stereo (complete).
EIN Notes: The wonderfully upgraded audio of the recent Richmond ’72 AMIGA release is for some reason missed out here!
Richmond concert was never available in professionally remixed quality - until now! For the first time, these are actual multi-track master recordings that have been used as a source for this show.
Critics, predictably, will point out that this can’t be true because ‘Lawdy Miss Clawdy’ is still incomplete and therefore Victorola can’t be having an original recording and mix of this show.
|
|
Well, in fact we do have that. We also have the original ‘On Tour’ paperwork from the vaults.
The previous ‘Greensboro, April 14, ‘72’ was good but it still wasn’t Master-tape quality.
Upon reading this paperwork it becomes clear that the ‘On Tour’ shows were recorded in both 16-track and 8-track. The reason behind recording it on both 16- and 8-track is probably due to the fact that it was a) not a regular concert recording but also the recording of a soundtrack for a movie and b) the 8-track could also be meant as a safety back-up, just in case something went wrong with the 16-track recording.
The official paperwork also reveals that almost half of the Richmond show is in the Sony vaults on 16-track tapes, the other half is on 8-track tapes. It makes one wonder if some of the original 16-track tapes are missing or are in the hands of collectors or are perhaps stored in the MGM vaults? The paperwork also proves that ‘Lawdy Miss Clawdy’ was not (!) recorded other than only a very small snippet of the beginning of the song. ‘Lawdy Miss Clawdy’ from the Richmond show is listed in the official paperwork as being ‘Film Company Number: 51’. The paperwork then reads:‘One (1) 8 track copy of original recording (overlaps and songs missing)’. Then there are handwritten notes, also from the vaults, of someone writing down about what is on the ‘On Tour’ tapes. The writer notes about ‘Lawdy Miss Clawdy’ of the Richmond show: ‘brief’. In other words: short / incomplete. So there you have it: some of the ‘On Tour’ recordings in the Sony vaults are incomplete and ‘Lawdy Miss Clawdy’ was not recorded in full and therefore missing from the tape.
Obviously the ‘main course’ of our release is the spectacular sounding Richmond concert on disc one, with the incomplete ‘Lawdy Miss Clawdy’, but fortunately only the start of the song is missing.
We have added second disc with ‘an overview’ of ‘Elvis On Tour’, featuring songs recorded during the March 1972 studio rehearsal sessions in Hollywood, CA and live songs from April 9, 1972 Hampton Roads, VA evening show and April 18, 1972 San Antonio, TX in glorious stereo. We have included two great monaural tracks from the April 5th 1972, Buffalo rehearsal, too.
This disc starts with the (little bit naughty) March 30, 1972 take 2 rehearsal of ‘Burning Love’. This time in better sound then before. We all know that when Elvis starts changing lyrics and laughing, he is in a great mood. Through several interesting rehearsals we come to a collection of songs from above mentioned shows recorded for ‘On Tour’. All these tracks are taken from the original tapes and latest, unreleased, mixes from the vaults. Your special attention is requested for the great sound on the recordings of San Antonio, TX, April 18, 1972!
As a very pleasant and special feature, we have added 8 tracks recorded during Elvis concerts in Madison Square Garden on June 10, 1972. All these recordings come in a different mix, prepared back in 1972 by RCA in Japan. This mix is very rare and hardly ever heard. It features some instruments much more prominent in the mix such as the organ and Glen D. Hardin on piano and some errors (feedbacks) which were later repaired in studio. The sound is fantastic and we feel that the recording of ‘The Impossible Dream’ shines more than ever before.
We sincerely hope you will enjoy this second Victrola release, featuring material from ‘Elvis On Tour’ and recognize the fact that we are bringing you this material in the best quality possible.
All tracks were taken from original sources and digitally restored and remastered in renewed studio for your listening pleasure. CD1 all tracks are stereo. CD2 all tracks are stereo except for tracks 9 & 10.
'Elvis April 10, 1972 Richmond'' release is presented in a deluxe double digipak accompanied with a 16-page booklet. Most of photos used for this project were taken in Richmond, April 10, 1972. Front cover cool image was taken in El Paso, November 10, 1972. Additional photos from Hampton Roads, April 09, 1972, selected March/April 1972 candid shots and photos taken during Madison Square Garden performances in June 1972 have also been added
The Victrola label is planning more releases in 2019, including fantastic 180grams vinyl versions of Greensboro and Richmond concerts in a beautiful gatefold sleeve, and with a large booklet filled with many rare pix and several interesting CDs too, so stay tuned!

Elvis SUN 45rpm VINYL replicas: News that Elvis' five SUN 45rpm VINYL singles as quality replicas are being released for Christmas.
Publicity notes that,,, Strictly low number of 250 sets have been produced of Elvis’ Sun 45rpm 7” (inch) replica singles.
With the same of last year’s release of the 10” (78rpm) version (see EIN review here) each of the 5 Sun 45rpm replicas have the original etched numbers included with the appropriate song sides and is by far the most original Sun replicas made to date.
Not only are all the labels perfect (as the original in size, color and accuracy), the sound quality is excellent with the original Sun sound (including That’s All Right) pressed on heavy stock vinyl.
The singles come in the same type brown paper sleeves as sold with the original releases.
This is a strictly low limited number of only 250 sets being released and is available from next week.

'What Now My Love' FTD in-depth Review: The most recent live soundboard FTD 5” double-digipack release, this set features Elvis in great form from his legendary Vegas shows in August 1972 at the Hilton Hotel, Las Vegas.
'What Now My Love' consists of the Midnight Shows on August 11 and 12 1972 . Between Madison Square Garden and Aloha From Hawaii, the Elvis Presley Show was at its peak!
Elvis is in top form with both new and old songs in his repertoire, and especially with the addition of 3 great new songs, “What Now My Love,” “Fever” and “My Way.” In an effort to find the right style for each arrangement, Elvis totally commits himself to each performance.
Both concerts have previously been out on bootleg so do Elvis collectors really need to purchase them all over again - (YES!)
Go here as Elvis soundboard super-collector Geoffrey McDonnell & EIN's Piers Beagley check out the details of this new FTD double-pack .....

'Bumps Are Gone But He's Still King!' New Import CD: Wow this is one weird title as Elvis certainly was "bumpy" in 1976.
Nevertheless 'Bumps Are Gone But He's Still King!' is the new CD from the E. P. Collector label.
The Hartford, July 28th, 1976 show is previously unreleased in complete AUDIENCE recorded form. Audionics label released parts of this show taken from soundboard source (CD "Across The Country," 2005). Unfortunately, complete soundboard recording of this concert do not exist. The E. P. Collector label had complete audience tape of very good sound quality in vaults for many, many years and finally decided to release it. July 28th, 1976 is longest and perhaps the best show from this particular tour. Among the concert highlights there are fantastic performances of ,,Jailhouse Rock“, „America“, „Polk Salad Annie“ and „Hurt“. There is one special moment too, when Elvis sing „Happy Birthday“, to Kitty Kahane, daughter of Elvis friend, comedian Jackie Kahane.
This show was restored with a great care with a focus on not changing the integrity of the original monaural recording. You may ask your supplier for samples.
This CD is packaged in a nicely designed digipak with concert review and collection of images taken during Hartford concert on July 28, 1976. |

'Stax Power' New Import CD: A new release from CMT 'Stax Power' that stays close to their "Spliced Take" concept, although this is an album which stands on its own.
The Publicity notes... While editing this album they have made all songs "blending in" so you will get the feeling as if you are in the actual session.
All tracks from the "Stax Sessions" have been included in this 2 cd set. One of the highlights is a breathtaking version of "Sweet Angeline" which has a longer intro and an instrumental break featuring Kathy Westmoreland,

'Wonderful Winter Wonderland' New Import: This Christmas spliced take CMT special is another winner in the great series and needs no further introduction.
One thing we do want to mention is the newly created "harmony" version of "The Wonderful World of Christmas", although there are no outtakes available the CMT team managed to make a very different sounding track, where even the vocal ending is far different then the master take!
Also just listen to the newly overdubbed version of "Merry Christmas Baby" which has been re-created from THREE different overdub versions.
All the other tracks are spliced very well, with longer intro's and great edits!
Tracks include; O Come, All Ye Faithful - spliced take 2 (alternate edit), The First Noel - Spliced dubbed/overdubbed, On A Snowy Christmas Night - Spliced dubbed/overdubbed, Winter Wonderland - Alternate Master, The Wonderful World of Christmas - Spliced "Harmony" master, It Won't Seem Like Christmas - Spliced take.. |

The two concerts Midnight Show, December 13 and December 6 1975 (which show is not noted)

‘Where No One Stands Alone’ In-Depth Review: It is forty years since Elvis Presley entered a recording studio and he seems very reluctant to record anything new. So in terms of releasing a "new" album of Elvis material the topic has always been a tricky one. After commercial failure of the last Elvis / RPO album that concept has been dropped in favour of an Andy Childs led “Re-Vamp” of some Elvis Gospel.
Recorded over fifty years ago there is no doubt that some of Elvis’ Gospel songs might benefit from some sensitive modern production. And, after all, there is an interesting selection of tracks to work with. Not only that, but Lisa Marie was also involved in the recording.
So can a new ‘Re-Vamp’ of Elvis Gospel really work and can we recommend it to Elvis collectors?
Click here as EIN's Piers Beagley and Bryan Gruszka are back again to cause "Double-trouble" and supply a very detailed review, discovering what's good and bad...
And HAVE YOUR SAY - what do you think of the new album? Are we wrong in our opinions?

Elvis Home-Recording New Bootlegs: From the moment that the new Elvis Home-Recording tapes were discovered and offered for free, EIN could hear the bootleggers' computers whirring into life creating "New" bootlegs CD covers.
It was all so inevitable and a little sad - signs of desperation if anything.
At least THREE bootlegs were announced in the following 24 hours and all sadly opportunistic and basically rip-offs.
What did the wily Col Parker say back in the fifties, "How much does it cost if it is FREE!"
Fans can download these fabulous three hours of Elvis jamming at home in Germany for FREE. (click here to the highly recommended Phoenix Elvis Forum)
Please see the tracklists at my good friend Keith Flynn website here.
Any bootlegger rushing out these newly found recordings have obviously done no quality audio remastering work.
Hopefully FTD / Ernst Jørgensen will find a right place to officially release them - possibly CD2 of the future Classic Album 'For LP Fans Only' |
|
Or perhaps MRS may release them in the future once their audio engineer 'Studio D' has worked his wonders.
For a fan's point of view, the more Bootleg versions that are announced then the less that each of them will make from them. Prices have been noted at US$45 / EuroE40 + postage for the 3cds.
Rather strangely "3DM audio" label (above) announced that their release is a "non-profit base" requested by the donor of the recording Juan Luis Gonzalez Brugal.
This however was a typical bootleg marketing ruse!
Juan Luis has confirmed, "I am not endorsing anyone or any thing. If I sign something, it would be a waiver to Sony/FTD. I am not making money off of this or endorsing anything outside FTD/Sony. I hope that is very clear. Someone here with connections please let all the Elvis news sites know."
The tracklist of the newly discovered "missing tape" is below
(News, Source;ElvisInfoNet) |
Newly discovered tape Tracklist: 'He Knows Just What I Need' (multiple versions), Reading The News - Lamar Fike, 'Cool Water', 'Like A Baby', 'His Hand In Mine', 'Young Love' - Red West, 'His Hand In Mine', 'Return To Me' , 'Are You Sincere', 'Are You Lonesome Tonight?', 'Stand By Me', 'Just a Closer Walk With Thee', 'Take My Hand, Precious Lord', 'Oh, Lonesome Me'. |

New Elvis Home Recordings Discovered: EIN is stunned that another tape has been discovered from Elvis' Home Recordings in Bad Nauheim, Germany late 1958.
HUGE THANKS to Juan Luis Gonzalez Brugal who has obtained the tape which features Elvis singing at home with Red West, Rex Mansfield, Charlie Hodge and Lamar Fike.
Previous songs from the same session have been released such as Earth Angel, I'll Take You Home Again Kathleen, There's No Tomorrow, and The Fool.
However this second tape features some fabulous incredible performances of 'He Knows Just What I Need', 'Like A Baby', 'His Hand In Mine', a very different arrangement of 'Stand By Me' even an amazing home-recording of 'Are You Lonesome Tonight?' all being performed at home before Elvis recorded them professionally.
In the soliloquy Elvis sings different lyrics, "The stage is bare, I'm standing there, in the part of a broken heart, And if you won't come back to be they will bring the curtain down"
|
|
The audio quality is (mostly) excellent and this is certainly a far more important find than the recent Gladys Presley singing 'Home Sweet Home'. These unreleased songs would have been GOLD had they been used in 'The Searcher'.
For full tracklist see my good friend Keith Flynn Sessions website here
EIN gives its greatest thanks to Juan Luis Gonzalez Brugal for the discovery. And congratulations from all Elvis fans. Now it is up to Ernst Jørgensen to find a good place for a release. 'For LP Fans Only' Classic Album extra disc perhaps.
