'Autopsy: The Last Hours Of Elvis' on UK TV: Another attempted tabloid thrashing of Elvis' legacy. So many of these programmes have already been done it only goes to show that how amazing powerful Elvis' legacy still is 37 year after his death. And that they still are a ratings draw-card on national TV!
Screening in the UK 9pm on Channel 5 -Tuesday, 2nd December.
The publicity notes.. Forensic pathologist Dr Richard Shepherd returns to re-examine the medical evidence relating to the deaths of famous people. In the first episode, he picks through the facts surrounding Elvis Presley's demise at his Memphis home Graceland in August 1977 at the age of 42, using testimony from the singer's childhood best friend, his cousin and his private nurse, as well as the medical facts. The post-mortem report reveals that towards the end of his life, nearly all of Presley's vital organs were almost twice the size they should have been, and that his system was full of prescription drugs."
The producers contacted an EIN contributor for some input. He told EIN, "I was contacted by one of their producers a couple of months ago. I talked to her, and it was clear that they were mainly interested in all the garbage and gossip surrounding his death. She called it a “factual medical documentary film”… I would call it something else but let’s not begin the day with obscenities! Medical doumentary.... I wouldn't trust these characters enough to treat me for a sore throat!"

The inside story of London's Elvis exhibition: Leicester rocker Nic Wastell was contacted ABG to help stage London's Elvis exhibition.
Graceland was my first stop. I flew to Memphis to meet the team that looks after Elvis’s personal possessions. The people there are fantastic and include distant relatives of the King and the leading authorities on all things Elvis in the world – which for a music fan like me was a real treat.
I lined up the O2 in London, but we only had four months to do it. And the space is huge (the equivalent of two Olympic swimming pools).
Then things started to get slightly surreal. Elvis still has magic powers it seems, as all kinds of people, from press agents to concert promoters, TV companies, radio stations, cinema beam back companies, newspapers, record companies all started to get in touch.
Now, having tried for over 30 years to generate interest in my own band (Chrome Molly) with people like this and generally being ignored, it felt a bit strange to suddenly find myself fending off journalists from the BBC, Sky and ITV on a daily basis.
At Graceland, they have only 10 per cent of his stuff on show and the rest is stored in a 70,000sq ft warehouse. It is the size of a football pitch. Filling the space will be no problem, I am told.

Graceland's Angie Marchese is the curator of the exhibition and it has been her job to whittle down the one million documents – yep, one million – 300,000 photographs and hundreds of outfits, dozens of cars and so on, into a selection that can give our visitors an insight into what Elvis was all about.
Another challenge was to get the best of Graceland over to the UK without lessening the offering over there (they get 600,000 visitors a year).
The most popular things in Graceland are:
• Elvis’ black leather suit from the 1968 comeback special.
• The Gold Lame suit
• And my favourite, the pink Cadillac that Elvis gave to his mum and dad.
It has been decided that all of these things can visit our exhibition in the UK but for a limited time and, also, one at a time.
There is a ton of technical and boring stuff that needs to be done – arranging builders, lighting, sound, glass cases, permits, tickets, website, advertising campaigns, press, PR, guide book, merchandise to be selected (we are getting hundreds of gift items from the Graceland shop over), a CD to be pressed (for the exhibition) and tunes to be selected for an end of show “live” experience which makes the exhibition something different to what has been before.
There is talk of a big celebrity party on December 15, which Priscilla will attend (hopefully me as well) and – I wish I could tell you more, but I can’t... Nic Wastell is the bassist in Leicester band Chrome Molly.

The other letter is from Charlie Hodge on his personal letterhead stating that Elvis wore the outfit in 1970-71 and recalls Elvis wearing it on stage one night at the Hilton in Las Vegas, and then going over to the Riviera to see Engelbert Humperdinck. Elvis' Honeymoon Hideaway marked down $1million: Elvis and Priscilla Presley's luxury love nest in the California desert has just become a little more affordable. The 4-bedroom, 5-bathroom mansion at 1350 Ladera Circle in Palm Springs, where the King lived with his newlywed wife in May 1967, was put on the market in April with a $9.5million price tag. Six months later, the realtors have shaved a million dollars off the original asking price.
Featured in 'Elvis & Me' and 'Elvis by the Presleys,' the home measuring nearly 5,000 square feet is built in 'four perfect circles, on three levels,' according to its listing page. The home also includes a pool, tennis court and even a stage.

Elvis and Priscilla spent their wedding night and honeymoon in Palm Springs after their Las Vegas wedding. Daughter Lisa Marie was born exactly nine months later.
As the story goes, Presley and his wife-to-be had rented the house as a venue for their ceremony and reception, but gossip columnist Rona Barrett who lived nearby became suspicious.
According to the home's website, the journalist even had a maid working at the house followed to find out when and where the wedding would take place.
When Barrett spilled the beans about the upcoming nuptials, Elvis and company decided to move their celebration to Las Vegas, with Frank Sinatra providing the transportation, including a fleet of limousines and his Lear jet, Christina.
After saying 'I do' at the Aladdin Hotel in Sin City, the First Couple of Rock 'N Roll hosted a breakfast reception for 100 guests and then returned to Palm Springs to begin their honeymoon.

Ronnie Milsap Talks Elvis: Ronnie Milsap didn't just dominate country music in the Seventies and Eighties, he helped redefine it. An eight-time CMA award winner, Ronnie Milsap was the 1974 Male Vocalist of the Year and was named Entertainer of the Year three years later. Q - What kind of resistance did you encounter from the Nashville country music community because of your Memphis and R&B background?
RM: RCA executive Jerry Bradley told Jack Johnson, "I know all about Ronnie Milsap. We take everybody down to Memphis to see him. He's a great rock & roll singer, he's a great R&B singer, but he's not a country singer." Jack played him that tape and Bradley said, "You know what? That son of a bitch is a country singer!" .... April 17, 1975 Elvis bought a Convair 880 Jet, recently taken out of service by Delta Airlines, for the then-substantial sum of $250,000. After refurbishment, the total exceeded $600,000.

Elvis was especially excited about the fact that the same design team had previously customized Air Force I. The craft slowly came together as an airworthy mix of modern function and Graceland elegance.
Close in size to a 707, the Lisa Marie could hold a maximum of 29 people, but usually there would be about eight or ten. When the final paint job was applied to the exterior, there was a prominent "TCB" logo on the tail.
After Elvis' death his father Vernon sold the plane in 1978 and it changed hands a couple of times. When Graceland opened to the public in 1982, EPE worked with the new owners to try to bring the plane home to Memphis. In 1984 the Lisa Marie arrived at Graceland, where it has remained one of the most popular attractions ever since.
These are the original planes owned by Elvis, they have been on display at Graceland for over 30 years.

Elvis Songs, a Favourite Farewell: A UK study by The Co-operative Funeralcare found people are choosing to make their final farewell an upbeat affair, as Monty Python’s 'Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life' has been named the most popular song played at funerals. The delightfully upbeat tune has superseded Frank Sinatra’s 'My Way' for the first time in a decade.
A study of songs played at 30,000 funerals also showed that Elvis Presley is the most requested with his songs 'Always On My Mind', 'The Wonder of You', 'Crying in the Chapel', 'How Great Thou Art', 'Peace In The Valley', 'You'll Never Walk Alone' and 'Can't Help Falling In Love' among the most requested farewells.
The most popular group is Queen with requested tracks including "Who Wants to Live Forever" and "Don’t Stop Me Now".
Meanwhile, traditional hymns, football anthems and classic pop songs continue to top the list of the "funeral music chart", with 'The Lord is My Shepherd', the UK Football Match of the Day theme tune and Robbie Williams’ 'Angels' featuring in the top 10.

John Stamos Lights up Graceland: Sporting Elvis-like sideburns, actor John Stamos helped flip the switch Friday on the colorful display of holiday lights adorning Graceland, Presley's home-turned-museum in Memphis.
An avid fan of the King, Stamos joined hundreds of fans who watched yellow, red and blue lights illuminate the large front yard of Presley's former home. Stamos was joined by young patients from Le Bonheur Children's Hospital at the lighting ceremony.
Stamos has close ties to Graceland: His voice is featured on the iPad tour of the home. He remembers dressing up as Presley during an episode of "Full House,".

The Story Behind "T-R-O-U-B-L-E": The 1975 Elvis hit "T-R-O-U-B-L-E" was composed by Kentucky's Jerry Chesnut. It was however originally written for singer Little David Wilkins, who really did play from "9 til half past 1" in a Nashville bar.
In the Tennessean newspaper Jerry Chesnut talked about writing "T-R-O-U-B-L-E" and about meeting Elvis.
Q - Where did the idea for the song come from?
Jerry Chesnut - Little David Wilkins kept bugging me: "Write me a hit, write me a hit." He was playing Ireland's Restaurant. It was steak and biscuits, and they had a bar set up. David would go over there and play the piano from 9 til 1. He's like Jerry Lee (Lewis), man, he's wild and great. We'd go over there and eat, have a few drinks I'd seen a good-looking woman walk in by herself, and it's trouble. I thought of that and it just kind of fell in place.
The first time I met Elvis, Lamar Fike said, "We're going to a movie. Elvis wants you to go with us." I met them down at the Memphis Theatre, I believe it was, and the movie was (1973 crime film) "Charley Varrick." We watched that movie together, and he introduced me to

Elvis. I don't know, being a songwriter and meeting Elvis, it's like meeting Superman or something. A lot of women would almost lose their mind. They'd jump out of balconies, they'd go crazy, you know? I thought, "Boy, this is really gonna be something." Lamar said, "Elvis, this is Jerry Chesnut." Elvis stuck out his hand and said, "How you doing?" To this day, I don't remember what I said (laughing).
The first time I heard Elvis' version I was in the studio, and they were mixing it over at Victor. ... Being a publisher I began to worry about how I would cope with all the distribution.. I was dreading it. Then all of a sudden I thought: "Here I've got a single by Elvis coming out. This is the greatest thing you could have happen, and I'm sitting here dreading it. It's time for me to get out of this business." (laughing)

Look at Elvis Upcoming Auction Items: WMC news gave Elvis fans the chance to see some of Elvis' personal auction items.
WMC got an exclusive look of some of the artifacts that will be up for bid on January 8 at the second annual Graceland Authenticated Auction, which will be held in conjunction Presley's 80th birthday festivities.
There will be 68 items at the auction, including his most notable artifact, the "My Happiness" Acetate, Elvis's first recording from Sun Studio.
Fans will also be able to bid on Presley's first driver's license from 1952, and a jacket from the movie "Viva Las Vegas."
Graceland's public relations director, Kevin Kern, said the recording is already getting a lot of interest.
"The selling estimate is all over the board from $50,000 to $150, 000," Kern said.
Bidding will take place two weeks prior to the live auction. Bids can be made online or phone.

Ten Actors Who Owed Success to Elvis: The Hollywood Reporter recently named ten actors who they believed clearly owed their success to being in an Elvis movie! ... The world knew him as the King of Rock and Roll, but it turns out that Elvis Presley had a pretty good eye when it came to co-stars who’d go on to achieve greater fame in later life (or, in a couple of cases, those whose careers had fallen on hard times and needed a little boost; Angela Lansbury, I’m looking at you).
Elvis starred in 31 dramatic movies during his lifetime - a movie career that began with the Nov. 15, 1956 release of Love Me Tender - but how many of his co-stars do you remember? Walter Matthau — King Creole (1958)
Eight years before Matthau received an Oscar nomination for his role in The Fortune Cookie (and a full decade before The Odd Couple made him a star), the actor played Maxie Fields in this early Presley movie — a club owner, abusive boyfriend to Elvis’ love interest in the movie and a character saddled with the unfortunate nickname “The Pig.” Clearly, things could only get better for him. presence) turned out to be none other than the woman who, six years later, would become better known as Morticia Addams on The Addams Family. Barbara Eden — Flaming Star (1960)
Eden was still five years away from her I Dream of Jeannie fame when she took the female lead role in Don Siegel’s adaptation of the novel Flaming Lance, replacing Barbara Steele midway through filming. She wasn’t alone in being a replacement; Presley himself got the role of Pacer Burton following Frank Sinatra having been linked to it. Considering that it was stills from this movie that Andy Warhol used to create Double Elvis, think about how different pop art could have been if Sinatra had stayed involved.

A year later, he’d be struggling to escape a Prisoner of War camp alongside Steve McQueen in The Great Escape, almost certainly using skills gained from merely standing in close proximity to the King. But Bronson wasn’t the only future star to pop up in this movie…
Ed Asner — Kid Galahad (1962), Change of Habit (1969)
Lou Grant was some distance away when Asner made the first of two screen appearances with Presley (In addition to Kid Galahad, he also showed up in 1969’s amazing Change of Habit). You’d be forgiven for missing him in Galahad, however; he’s uncredited in his role as Assistant D.A. Frank Gerson.
Teri Garr — Kissin’ Cousins (1964), Clambake (1967)

A strange fact about Teri Garr: years before she’d become known for roles in Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Tootsie and Young Frankenstein, she appeared in uncredited bit parts in not one, but two, Elvis movies.
Bill Bixby — Clambake (1967), Speedway (1968)
When Bixby appeared in Clambake — the first of two Presley movies he showed up in, with the other being Speedway, a movie which also featured the “acting” debuts of a bunch of real-life racing drivers — The Incredible Hulk was just a comic book character and even The Courtship of Eddie’s Father was just an idea in the back of a writer’s brain. Thankfully, Elvis was around to give America’s former Favorite Martian something to do while he waited.
Corbin Bernsen — Clambake (1967)

Dick Sargent — Live A Little, Love A Little (1968)
When Sargent played Harry (above right) in one of Elvis’ final movies, Dick York was still Darren on television’s Bewitched. It would be another year before the actor — at that point, arguably best known for a role in 1959’s Operation Petticoat supporting Cary Grant and Tony Curtis — would step into York’s comfortable shoes, making this slight comedy (which features Michele Carey as a prototype manic pixie dream girl) his most high-profile gig yet… and probably a sign that he could put up with Samantha’s cute magic tricks.
Dabney Coleman — The Trouble with Girls (1969)
Snagging the role of Harrison Wilby in this genuinely strange quasi-comedy must have seemed like a good news/bad news deal for Coleman. On the one hand, it was an important role in a high-profile movie, which he hadn’t really enjoyed before. On the other, the reason the role is important is because his character gets killed off early on to get the story going. The heights of Nine to Five must have seemed almost unimaginable at the time.-
Oddly enough, this movie also features appearances of Frank Welker and Nicola Jaffe, who’d go on to voice Fred and Velma in Hanna-Barbera’s Scooby-Doo for years afterward. Yet more proof that Elvis & his producers recognized potential when he saw it.

The Elvis Presley Baptist Hospital Cover Up: Salon.com has published an excerpt from the new Joel Williamson book 'Elvis Presley: A Southern Life.'
"What America didn’t hear about the death of the king. - After Presley's death, an effort was launched to protect the reputation of the hospital that had treated him. (EIN will be reviewing the book soon).
... The call came to Memphis Fire Station No. 29 at 2:33 p.m. on Tuesday, August 16, 1977. The dispatcher indicated that someone at 3754 Elvis Presley Boulevard was having difficulty breathing. “Go to the front gate and go to the front of the mansion,” the voice directed. Ambulance Unit No. 6 swung out of the station onto Elvis Presley Boulevard and headed south, siren wailing, advertising a speed that the ponderous machine had not yet achieved.
The two medics manning the ambulance recognized the address right away. The “mansion,” as the dispatcher called it, was Elvis Presley’s home, Graceland, three miles south of the fire station. They had been there often, to take care of fans fainting at the front gate and pedestrians injured by passing automobiles. Two years before, one of the medics, Charles Crosby, had come to assist Elvis’ father, Vernon Presley, after he suffered a heart attack. He thought it might be Vernon again.
As the ambulance crested a low hill and swooped down the broad six-lane boulevard toward Graceland, the gates swung open and the crowd milling around the entrance parted. Making a wide sweeping turn to the left, the vehicle bounced heavily across the sidewalk and hurtled through the entranceway, striking one of the swinging metal gates a clanging |

blow. One of the several musical notes welded to the gate fell off. Crosby accelerated up the curving drive toward the mansion. He braked hard in front of the two-story, white-columned portico. Climbing down from the ambulance, Crosby and Jones were met by one of Elvis’s bodyguards.
“He’s upstairs,” the man exclaimed, “and I think it’s an OD.”
... Later at Graceland, Dr Nichopoulos would secure Vernon Presley’s signature to a document authorizing an autopsy of his son’s body by the staff of Baptist Hospital, to be paid for by the Presley estate. Thus, Vernon might share—or not share—the resulting report with anyone he chose. If the object was to keep the cause of Elvis’s death a secret, it was an excellent move both for the Presley family and for Dr. Nichopoulos. If Elvis died by his own hand from popping too many pills, only trusted people needed to know the truth, and the carefully constructed public image of Elvis would be secure. Also, if Dr. Nichopoulos had prescribed too many pills for Elvis, that fact might be kept from authorities who might otherwise take away his medical license or even bring him up on criminal charges.
The Cover-Up
Baptist Hospital administrators realized that in dealing with the death of Elvis Presley they were involved in a public relations matter that might damage the hospital’s sterling reputation. Over the years they had carefully concealed the nature and seriousness of his often embarrassing illnesses, including those resulting from drug abuse. Dr. |

Nichopoulos had always checked Elvis into Baptist Hospital because he knew they were discreet. That was surely one reason why he ordered Charles Crosby to drive the ambulance some seven miles to Baptist Hospital rather than to the nearest emergency room, at Methodist South Hospital, only blocks away from Graceland.
The autopsy was conducted by a specially selected and highly skilled team of nine pathologists headed by the hospital’s chief of pathology, Dr. E. Eric Muirhead. Dr. J erry Francisco, the medical examiner for Shelby County, closely observed the proceedings. It would be his responsibility to declare to the world the official cause of Elvis Presley’s death....

Ed Hill Elvis Memoirs Coming Soon On-Line: Ed Hill was a member of the Stamps Quartet and would often announce, “Ladies and gentlemen, Elvis has left the building. Thank you and good night!”
The Tennessee Star Weekly Journal has been given exclusive rights to publish the Ed Hill memoirs that detail his close relationship with Elvis Presley. They will begin next week. This chronicle of Elvis is found no where else.
Hill recalls how he both became a member of the quartet and his first experience with Elvis. “I started to work for J. D. Sumner, who owned the Stamps Quartet, at his office. He came in one day and said he needed me to help fill in until he could find a new baritone singer. So I filled in, for almost 25 years.”
The first show I did with Elvis was in California. He flew us out there. And I needed to learn all the songs. So, I was given a live performance tape to study. I was a little nervous because I didn’t know my part very well. We were singing the program and he kept looking at us. I was thinking maybe I was singing the wrong part. All of a sudden he walks over to us. He puts his hand out, shakes mine and said ‘Ed Hill, welcome to the family.’” That was the beginning of a long friendship, one that Hill reveals in his memoirs.

Elvis Memphis Map in Wall Street Journal: The Wall Street Journal recently featured a story on paper maps vs. apps, and included Memphis Map for Elvis Fans, a paper map that features all of the Elvis-related locations in town.
The map's creator, Alan Grossman, and his wife, Andrea Shaw, are big Elvis fans who wanted to honor the King with a map of all of the important places in Memphis - even if they no longer exist.
The paper Elvis Memphis map, with its pastel peach landscape shows 137 sites, most with hand-drawn illustrations, flagging possible points of interest to die-hard—really die-hard—Elvis fans.

There is Graceland, of course, Elvis’s mansion and final resting place. But there is also Coletta’s Italian restaurant, where Elvis enjoyed a slice of pizza. There are dozens of markers for buildings that don’t exist anymore — like the Britling Cafeteria, where Gladys, worked as a waitress in 1952, and Crown Electric Co., where he took a job as a truck driver.
Grossman says he invested nearly $50,000 creating his paper Elvis map. He sells the map for $9.95 through a website and some Memphis stores, including Graceland’s gift shop.
When Mr. Grossman and his wife, Andrea Shaw, were married in 1991, Ms. Shaw caught his Elvis bug, and pushed to do a map.
She threw herself into the research, but was dismayed to find that many important Elvis sites were no longer there—either the buildings had a different use or had been torn down and all that was left was a vacant lot.
No matter. The couple decided the map would show all possible points of interest, including those that no longer existed, such as the local draft board where Elvis registered in 1953.
Manik Gupta, Director of Google Maps, says paper and digital can coexist. The Elvis map is “fantastic,” he says.

The Wicked Queen Priscilla Is Back!: Priscilla Presley has arrived in Manchester ready to star as the Wicked Queen in the Opera House’s big Christmas pantomime. It’s her first ever time in the city and she says she’s looking forward to exploring our culture and history - including visiting lots of our traditional pubs!
Priscilla says: “I’m looking forward to getting to know the city and explore. I love the pubs here! I wish we had pubs like this in LA. Everyone here is so proud of their community pub, you go in and people are so friendly, it’s a place to go to socialise and find out what’s going on. The first time I went to a pub in this country - I got to know everything about everybody in town. I thought oh my god this is better than any soap opera! It’s such fun that you can let your guard down and everyone is so welcoming in Manchester." |

Priscilla made her panto debut two years ago in Wimbledon as the Wicked Queen and is reprising the role here in Manchester alongside Warwick Davis, Tam Ryan, Philip Olivier, Natalie Andreou and Daniel Stockton.
Priscilla, 69, says: “I loved the idea of playing the Wicked Queen. It has been great finding out where the booing is in the character, it has been educational, to the point where I became quite receptive to the boos - it’s all in good fun! The more you invite it the more people join along.”
Priscilla is also busy preparing a new Elvis exhibition in London, with a host of rare archive Elvis artefacts on display in the UK for the first time that she has brought to the UK from Graceland.
Priscilla says she’s still surprised by the level of interest in the icon to this day. “It’s been quite a journey. It’s been 37 years since he’s passed but I think that Elvis gave us so much, whether it be his music or films, but to be able to last this long is something I know that he himself would have been very very surprised about. The exhibit is here because the English fans have been so supportive of Elvis for years and years and years and a new generation are interested too.”

Elvis "live” Hologram Las Vegas Show in the Works: Jamie Salter, the branding guru who owns a majority of Elvis' estate, is planning a “live” show in Las Vegas with Presley appearing as a hologram. The Elvis Presley show still continues with Elvis boasting 12.4 million “likes” on Facebook and 187,000 followers on Twitter and the recently released a duet with Barbra Streisand. Never mind that he died in 1977.
And that’s just the beginning for the King of Rock ’n’ Roll and other long-dead celebrities. Reviving a corpse from a cryogenic deep freeze is still the stuff of science but every other promotional possibility is on the table. The Elvis “live” show in Las Vegas with Presley appearing as a hologram will be much like the one of Michael Jackson that appeared at a show in Sin City earlier this year. Pinup queen Bettie Page, managed by dead-celeb superagent Mark Roesler, is slated for a holographic burlesque herself.
Today, deceased icons from pop culture’s heyday are enjoying unprecedented success, out-earning even their former flesh-and-blood selves, says Salter, one of the new breed of brand managers using technology to wring big bucks from superstars otherwise resting in peace (or so we hope).
These late luminaries are profitable in part because they first captivated fans in a pre-Internet age of truly mass media, dominating the popular imagination in ways few contemporaries can match, Salter says

Salter bought the Elvis estate, including Graceland and the rights to the singer’s image and music, from Core Media Group Inc. in November 2013. Salter’s New York–based Authentic Brands Group LLC expects profits to rise by 25 percent this year thanks to Elvis-themed bathrobes, calendars, cookie jars, cuff links, luggage, Christmas-tree toppers and, oh yeah, music.
“We bought Elvis at the right time,” Salter says. “None of the kids listen to his music, but look at how they’re dressing, and their flipped-up haircuts.” For a page ripped straight from Presley’s pompadour playbook, just Google Justin Bieber’s latest coif.

These shows may well represent some of best of Elvis Presley live in the 70s. The Nov. 11th, 1970 recording really captures the raw excitement and electricity of those early tours. Elvis delivers a high octane performance that drives the audience in a frenzy. In parts he sounds a bit unfocused, but overall both Elvis and his audience are having such a ball that any criticisms of his performance are nothing more than nitpicking. The April 27, 1973 concert in the same city may well be his best show of the year, and is a serious contender for "Elvis' best concert performance in the 70's". Compared to the '70 show, his performance here is tighter, more focused and far more varied. Elvis is vocally strong and he delivers the goods in a knock-out performance.

“My Happiness” Acetate To Be Auctioned!: Following the highly successful Auction at Graceland during Elvis Week 2014, collectors from around the world will once again have the opportunity to own a piece of history with the January 8, 2015 Graceland auction surrounding the annual birthday celebration in Memphis.
All 68 of the genuine Elvis artifacts from third-party collectors offered in the auction have been thoroughly researched and evaluated by Graceland Authenticated.
Some of the signature items up for bid on January 8, 2015 include:
- “My Happiness” Acetate - Considered part of the “Holy Grail” of artifacts in rock ‘n’ roll history, Elvis’ first-ever recording is a 78 mm acetate produced at Memphis Recording Service (home of the Sun Record Company) in June of 1953. Elvis paid $4 USD for what was said to be a gift for his mother. It features the songs “My Happiness” (Side A), which is the only Elvis recording that exists of this song and “That’s When Your Heartaches Begin” (Side B). The Presley family didn’t actually have a record player, so Elvis took the acetate to the home of friend Ed Leek, |

who did, where he listened to the results of his first studio recording session. Elvis left the acetate behind at the Leek home and never gave it to his mother. This historical 78 acetate was the beginning of a revolution in the music industry and the start of an iconic legend. In private hands since it was created, Elvis’ first recording is being offered for the first time since Elvis walked into that Memphis studio over 60 years ago.
- Autographed copy of “That’s All Right” 78 record #209 - The first professional recording of Elvis on the Sun Record label, Elvis autographed it for friend Ed Leek and it reads “To a good pal, Elvis Presley” in blue ink on the iconic Sun label. Considered by some music historians to be the rock ‘n’ roll equivalent of the “Shot Heard Round the World,” this record jumpstarted the unprecedented craze over the future King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. - Elvis’ First Driver’s License - Issued on March 24, 1952, Elvis’ first driver’s license lists his date of birth as 1-8-35, occupation as student, hair color of brown, eyes as blue and height of 5’11. - Second Louisiana Hayride Contract - Signed on September 8, 1955, by Elvis, Gladys and Vernon with all three of the Presley’s signatures in bold red ink, this contract committed Elvis to perform every Saturday for one year, starting November 12, 1955. Early contracts signed by the whole Presley family are extremely rare - all three signatures were not required on contracts once Elvis turned 21, just four months after this contact was signed.

'Elvis Country' Voted a Must-Own Rock Album: Rolling Stone recently voted Elvis' 'Elvis Country (I'm 10,000 Years Old)' in their list of "50 Rock Albums Every Country Fan Should Own".

‘Elvis and Nixon’ already Sold to Key Markets: Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions has bought key markets for “Elvis and Nixon” including Eastern Europe, Latin America, Portugal, Spain and Scandinavia.
The film stars Kevin Spacey as Richard Nixon and Michael Shannon as Elvis Presley. The project, based on the 1970 meeting of the two figures at the White House, is being introduced at AFM to foreign buyers by sales-financing banner Bloom.
Liza Johnson (“Hateship Loveship”) will direct. Cassian Elwes and Holly Wiersma are producing. Prescience’s Tim Smith and Paul Brett are executive producing with Prescience financing.
The meeting took place on Dec. 21, 1970, when Presley showed up on the White House lawn to request a meeting with Nixon to be sworn in as an undercover agent.

Why Is Elvis Special: The Sydney Morning Herald recently commented on The London Elvis Exhibition.... "If I hear that some event has booked an Elvis impersonator and everyone pretends to groan, I am secretly delighted. Even if the ETA is rubbish ELVIS music will remind you of the real thing.
So what is it that is so special about Elvis? What is his distinctive magic, when even a '50s rock fanatic could just as easily worship Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry or Eddie Cochran?
Well, even apart from the sound of him, there's plenty to love. There's the fact that unlike too many later stars he was real, self-made: a moody boy from a two-room house in Tupelo who loved his guitar and served the draft as an ordinary soldier, donating his army pay to charity, asking no special treatment and buying TV sets and extra fatigues for his mates on the base.
When did Mick Jagger or Ozzy Osbourne ever do anything so sweetly, laddishly benign? Here was no plastic celeb but an American spirit: a son of the great racial melting-pot with a dash of Celt and Cherokee in him, a church-going white kid whose first love was Gospel, a Beale Street regular in the segregated South. Indeed, young Presley was one of the musicians gripped and inspired by the daring DJ radio stations that brought R&B into white culture, kicking out the bland Perry Como discs to play dangerous "race records".

Richard, that bland vanilla rocker, sang and wiggled in a safer "white" way. Curiously, we were allowed Paul Robeson, presumably because he sang opera and spirituals and didn't move at all.
So, yes, the sexiness, the edgy hip-swivelling freedom of Elvis was important to his appeal and remains so. But look at all the enormously fat, white-rhinestoned impersonators who feel equally empowered to represent him in his later years. There is a rueful sense of pity, a kinship in human fallibility, in the very fact that his fit, golden youthfulness deteriorated after his divorce into obesity and addiction to prescription drugs (having being fed amphetamines by his army sergeant in Germany for stamina and weight loss).
There's a narrative arc, a story both inspiring and mournful: poverty and wild riches, musical enthusiasm, a willingness to dance with youthful insouciance through cultural boundaries. There's energy and sweetness, naivety, simple religiosity, flawed but heartfelt relationships, self-disgust and early death. Yet soaring over it all is that golden voice and that defiance: think of the energy of Heartbreak Hotel, a song that makes you swagger, rather than slouch, down your own version of Lonely Street.

Warhol's Triple Elvis $81.9 million at Auction: Christie's held the biggest art auction in history on Wednesday, selling $853 million worth of contemporary and post-war art, led by a pair of Andy Warhol works featuring multiple images of Elvis Presley and Marlon Brando. The impressive haul beat Christie's high pre-sale estimate of $836 million.
A bidding war drove Warhol's "Triple Elvis (Ferus Type)" to $81.9 million, while "Four Marlons" fetched $69.6 million to lead the sale of 80 works in a packed saleroom where only five works failed to find buyers. Christie's had estimated the silkscreen-on-linen Warhols would together sell for more than $130 million, which turned out to be conservative in the intensely competitive market.
It was the fourth successive time since May 2013 that the auction house's post-war and contemporary sale broke the record for the highest-ever total of a single sale.

'Merry Christmas, Love Elvis' re-enters the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart at 161; is a new entry on the Catalog Album Chart at 32 and drops from 14 to 18 on the Holiday Album Chart.

Trevor Simpson and 'The Best Of British #2': Trevor Simpson, a former building society manager, top flight soccer referee and music aficionado was entranced by Elvis from the moment he exploded onto the English music scene in the late 1950s with Heartbreak Hotel.
He was a schoolboy then and the love of all things Elvis has never diminished.
Trevor, who lives in the UK, has over the years contributed to magazines like Goldmine, Elvis the Man and his Music and the Graceland approved bi-monthly Essential Elvis.
In 2007 Trevor began a huge undertaking with the first of what will eventually be a trilogy of books charting Elvis’s impact on the British and worldwide music scene.
The result was 'Elvis: The Best of British - The HMV Years', a huge tome that was sold all over the world.

Even more significant was a pre-order of 1,000 copies by EPE, which later asked for 500 more.
It was a labour of love and had taken five hard years of research and writing before publication. But that was not the end.
Unsurprisingly it went down so well that Trevor was commissioned to write a second book (same title except this time it is the the RCA Years) - and now a third is already in the planning stage.
The latest offering - another mine of amazing facts, statistics, photographs and reminiscences continues Elvis’s story through his transition from HMV to RCA record labels.
It is peppered with golden nuggets like how RCA’s first British Elvis release Teddy Bear was kept off the number one spot by the HMV distributed All Shook Up. Ironically as part of the deal which took Elvis from one company to the other HMV was allowed to continue distribution for 12 months.
Trevor’s research has brought him into contact with Wayne Mann, Elvis’s cousin (their mums were sisters), and he explains how Elvis learned to play piano at his home two doors away in Tupelo, Mississippi.
The book also reveals the time when Elvis was embarrassed (in the nicest possible way), on the Ed Sullivan Toast of the Town show.
Elvis finished his set singing the gospel song Peace in the Valley following which Sullivan said “this is a real decent, fine boy. We want to say that we’ve never has a pleasanter experience with a big name than we’ve had with you”. Apparently the CBS switchboard lit up with people desperate to know where they could buy the song.
“The first book took five years of research, and there was plenty of material for this second one,” said Trevor who is now contemplating Elvis’s gospel influences to round off the trilogy. “It has taken eight hours a day, five days a week for a year to complete the latest book, but I’ve loved every minute of it.”

Elvis Presley #1 "Celebrity Veteran": On US Veteran's Day the military have listed their "Top 10 Celebrity Veterans".
It seems only fair that the man known as "the King of Rock 'n' Roll" should be the king of this list. Drafted by the U.S. Army just as he was experiencing a rise to stardom seldom seen before or since in popular music, Presley didn't shirk from his duty and found himself trading in his leather jacket for combat fatigues. He entered the Army as a regular GI at Ft. Chaffee on March 24, 1958. As his famously tousled hair was shaved down to regulation length, he cracked, "Hair today, gone tomorrow." His induction was a major event, with hundreds of overlookers and media there to witness it. "The Army teaches boys to think like men" Elvis said.
Elvis was stationed at Ft. Hood for Basic Training and was assigned to the Second Armored Division's 'Hell On Wheels' unit. Later he was assigned to the Third Armored 'Spearhead' Division, and stationed in Friedberg, Germany -- it was here that he met Priscilla Beaulieu, who would eventually become his |

wife. During his time in Texas and Germany, Elvis kept a low profile, although he was already wealthy enough to bring his father and grandmother to live with him off-base.
By the time he finished his Army stiny, Elvis had been promoted to sergeant, and he was honorably discharged from active duty on March 5, 1960 at Fort Dix, receiving a mustering-out check of $109.54. Just prior to his exit, Elvis reflected on his experiences in an interview for Armed Forces Radio and Television: "I was in a funny position. Actually, that's the only way it could be. People were expecting me to mess up, to goof up in one way or another. They thought I couldn't take it and so forth, and I was determined to go to any limits to prove otherwise, not only to the people who were wondering, but to myself."

Apart from Larry Geller denying any real involvement - although his name is first on the book cover - Marty Lacker also tells EIN, "I read that story about Tillander's new book and all I can do is shake my head in disbelief at some of that shit he states.
As for Elvis' supposed vast Nazi memorabilia, all I ever saw in 20 years was a Nazi Military officer's hat and a brown overcoat that they were always depicted as wearing in the winter.
First of all, he features two great pillars of truth, Larry Geller and George Klein so I suggest they list this book in the FICTION section. Geller and his far eastern spiritual crap that screwed Elvis' head up and Klein who is a habitual liar.

"Three well-known Swedish musical artists Lotta Engberg, Martin Stenmarck, and Magnus Carlsson plus their booking agent Bruno Tillander have been charged with tax evasion and face up to two years in prison, reports news agency TT.
The artists' booking agent Bruno Tillander is also being charged and is suspected of gross accounting violations and serious tax evasion. Tillander faces up to six years in prison and if he is found guilty he would be forced to serve a minimum of 6 months in jail.

Two Elvis Singles in "Catchiest Top 20": It is hard to know whether to celebrate being in a singles chart that includes Spice Girls 'Wannabe' and Lou Bega 'Mambo No. 5' - but according to a University research program into the world's most recognisable song, Elvis Presley's 'It's Now Or Never' and 'Devil in Disguise' are his catchiest songs. (for people who do On-Line quizzes!!)
The data from more than 12,000 participants was analysed by the academic and colleagues and the Spice Girls ' Wannabe' was judged the most recognised song. It sold 7 million copies worldwide and topped the chart in 22 countries.
'Mambo No 5' by Lou Bega was the second most recognisable track, while Survivor’s 'Eye of the Tiger' was third. Lady Gaga, Abba, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and the Human League also feature in the top 10 chosen from more than 220 bestselling popular songs since the 1940s,

"We were particularly interested in music and memory and why exactly it is that certain pieces of music stay in your memory for such a long time," Burgoyne told BBC News. "You may only hear something a couple of times yet 10 years later you immediately realise that you have heard it before. Yet other songs, even if you have heard them a lot, do not have this effect."
The study aimed to identify whether the catchiest songs had similar characteristics. He said he believed that very strong melodic hooks seemed to be the most memorable, but further research would be conducted next year. Few studies had been conducted into this aspect of popular music, the academic added.

'An Evening with Elvis’ Friends and Original Musicians' UK Tickets ON Sale: Back in August Arjan Deelen was proud to announce that he had tracked down Elvis' 1970 drummer Bob Lanning. He was able make a deal with him for an exclusive tour in May 2015. This will mark the first time since 1970 that Bob will be playing Elvis’ music. For the first time, you will be able to hear songs like ‘Polk Salad Annie’, ‘The Wonder Of You’, ‘Walk A Mile In My Shoes’ and many others as played by the drummer that you can hear on the original Elvis versions.
Enthusiasm is already running high among Elvis fans for the 2015 “An Evening with Elvis’ Friends and Original Musicians” shows (featuring a.o. Duke Bardwell, Bob Lanning and Marlyn Mason). The Southerner Elvis Presley had a weapons fixation, was known to have a temperament, and had a contradictory relationship to the black civil rights movement. He was a reactionary crime-fighter with fictitious role models such as Clint Eastwood’s film character "Dirty Harry". He supported the Vietnam War and offered President Richard Nixon his services in the fight against communism and left-wing liberal movements. Latest Billboard Album Charts: Once again very little new action for Elvis recently on the US charts but it must be getting near Christmas as Elvis 'regular albums creep back into the charts.
'Heart And Soul' drops out of the Billboard Album Chart for w/e 15th November, 2014. It also drops from 38 to 43 on the Catalog Album Chart.
'It's Christmas Time' rises from 10 to 9 and 'Merry Christmas, Love Elvis' remains at 14 on the Holiday Album Chart. 'It's Christmas Time' also re-enters the Catalog Album Chart at 49.

Graceland Christmas Lighting Ceremony with John Stamos: Elvis' Christmas lights at Graceland will be turned on this year by actor and Elvis fan John Stamos. The annual lighting ceremony at Graceland will take place on November 21 at 6 p.m. Patients from Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis will help Stamos light up the King's castle for the season. Channeling his inner Elvis, Santa and his red jumpsuit-inspired suit will arrive by limousine and police escort. Santa will be available for pictures with the kids following the lighting ceremony. The lighting event featuring John Stamos is free and open to the public.
The extensive Christmas display at Graceland includes hundreds of blue lights along the driveway, a life-size Nativity scene, Santa and his sleigh, and much more, all originally displayed at Graceland by Elvis and the Presley family. The interiors of Graceland mansion will feature the Presley family's Christmas décor starting on Nov. 21 through to his birthday week celebration in January.
Stamos said, "I am honored to be a part of the Graceland tour experience and tremendously excited to be there in person for the lighting ceremony this year. I am a major Elvis fan and know how important the holidays were to him.

Priscilla Talks About London 02 Exhibition: Speaking from her home in Los Angeles it's clear that Priscilla is delighted with her latest idea to bring Elvis to life in Britain.
"Elvis wasn't putting on any pretence, he never did. What you saw with him is what you got. Not everyone knows that, people know his music but they don't necessarily know the real Elvis, I want the world to know he was a lovely, loyal man. You don't get that with so many musicians or celebrities these days, they don't value their fans, so I want to share with the world what he was really like." She noted.
Next month an exhibition to celebrate his life will come to London's O2 Arena. It will be the first time Presley's most treasured possessions have left Graceland.
As well as give the British public an enormously exciting experience, and the opportunity to view some precious unseen exhibits, Priscilla wants to explain Elvis' legacy. Show is fans he was a real person, not someone who just simply sang on a stage.
"I'm very, very excited as we have been wanting to do this for some time. It is a peak behind the scenes of the real Elvis, Elvis the father, son, friend, dad. Elvis was just so very loyal and that will come across, he was someone who could be trusted, someone who people could rely on, the trust factor was very important to him, he was wonderful.
Another thing that was so special to him was the fact that he graduated from high school, he was the first person in his family to ever do that. Things like that people don't necessarily know but that's the kind of thing that I remember so fondly about him."

‘Elvis & Nixon’ New Movie, now with Kevin Spacey: The rumoured movie 'Elvis & Nixon' has now found two-time Oscar winner Kevin Spacey to play President Richard Nixon opposite Oscar nominee Michael Shannon as rock ‘n’ roller Elvis Presley as the reconfigured project hits AFM this week. Written by actor Cary Elwes with Hanala and Joey Sagal, 'Elvis & Nixon' centres on the historic 1970 meeting between King and the president that famously yielded one of the more curious White House photo ops in pop culture history.
Liza Johnson (Hateship Loveship, Return) is directing Elvis & Nixon, which The Butler’s Cassian Elwes is producing with Holly Wiersma. Byron Wetzel is executive producing alongside Tim Smith and Paul Brett for Prescience, which is backing the project.

On the morning of December 21, 1970, Presley showed up on the White House lawn asking to speak with the president at the height of his revived rock ‘n’ roll stardom. President Nixon received him in the Oval Office, where they discussed the patriotic Presley’s views on drug use and hippies (he didn’t care for either, though he would develop an addiction to barbiturates), and the King asked to be sworn in as an undercover federal agent, leaving behind a gifted Colt .45 for the president. Less than four years after their powwow, Nixon resigned over the Watergate scandal; three years after that, Presley was dead at 42.
Elvis & Nixon unfolds during the course of a week. Eric Bana and Danny Huston once were attached to the roles, but it’s a new package that’s also seen some script revisions and filming is slated for an early 2015 start. "It’s almost hard to fathom this story which evolved in the Oval Office between these two extraordinary men," said Walton. "It’s almost too good to be true."

'Elvis Presley: A Southern Life': Elvis Presley might have left the building, but he’s become immortal in movies, songs and books, including UNC history professor emeritus Joel Williamson’s biography "Elvis Presley: A Southern Life."
Unlike other tributes to the king of rock ‘n’ roll, Williamson’s book discusses Elvis as a product of Southern culture — much like Williamson, himself.
"As I learned more about his life I wanted to feel what he felt there, to the extent that I am a Southerner, a male, a son of farmers who came to town, I had a head start."
A retired Lineberger professor of southern studies and race relations at UNC, Williamson has researched Elvis for 20 years, seeking to connect with his hometown roots. He moved to Memphis to walk the same streets as Elvis, visited his birthplace in Tupelo and made 14 trips to his Graceland estate.
What separates Williamson’s book from other Elvis biographies is its focus on the southern origins of Elvis’ stardom.
"In my writing I sought to offer a reading of the life of Elvis Presley and the lives of girls and women in the 20th century in the South and in America," Williamson said.
Williamson, had help from Ferber and Donald Shaw, a professor in UNC’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
"He is a tremendously insightful scholar in southern culture," Shaw said.

women were emerging from a period of economic depression and World War II, and their lives were confined socially, Shaw said. They were expected to be chaste and proper, he said, until Elvis liberated them.
"Elvis represents such a unique part of southern culture, and southern culture was influenced by Elvis’ music," Shaw said.
A southern scholar who teaches in Mississippi near where Elvis was born, Ownby said he was intrigued by Williamson’s approach.
"The book shows that Elvis Presley’s identity got stuck at a very early age. He got stuck as the object of a female desire — when that had a range of challenging meanings, but he chose to stick with it," Ownby said.
"It’s a great biography — and great biographies are powerful in themselves," he said. "Joel Williamson never says that Elvis is an example of something. I found that after I read this book, it stayed with me."
So maybe Elvis hasn’t left. Not yet, anyway.

'Elvis 80' SONY Birthday release: As suspected SONY is working on another "Greatest Hits" type compilation for Elvis' 80th Birthday celebration on January 8, 2015.
Back in 2009 the 'Elvis 75 Good Rockin’ Tonight' 4 CD set with then "new" audio re-mastering from Vic Anesini was a delight to behold. One can only imagine this new 2015 set being a too obvious repeat. This time 80 tracks "All The Hits" have been promised on three CDs.

Elvis' last #1 'Suspicious Minds' 45 years Ago: It was this week forty- five years ago that Elvis had his last US Billboard Number One! After premiering his new single with some sensational Las Vegas summer performances the record would reach the US #1 spot on November 1, 1969.
Billboard notes, "In the wake of the success of Elvis Presley's December 1968 NBC TV special, Elvis – often referred to as the '68 Comeback Special – the 34-year-old singer headed into the recording studio in January 1969 to build on the momentum.
Among the cuts Presley laid down at Memphis' American Sound Studio was his seventh and final No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100, "Suspicious Minds." A number of his hits, such as "Hound Dog," predate the launch of the chart in 1958.
"This is where it all started for me," Presley told Billboard during his only in-studio interview after signing with RCA in 1955,"It feels good to be back in Memphis recording."
Presley also remarked that it was "especially refreshing" that the American Sound sessions were among the few he did in the '60s that weren't tied to a film. |

After years of acting in movies and churning out their soundtrack albums, Presley and his pop career were rejuvenated. His comeback was complete on Nov. 1, 1969 when "Suspicious Minds," released as stand-alone single, became his first No. 1 Hot 100 hit since 1962's "Good Luck Charm."
Presley continued to rack up top 40 hits in the early '70s, including his final Billboard No. 2 smash, "Burning Love," in 1972. (It was blocked from the top by Chuck Berry's novelty hit 'My Ding-a-Ling'. "

Elaine Beckett -Easy Come Easy Go costar- Interview: Elaine Beckett was born in England, qualified with an Arts Degree and yet was somehow destined to be a co-star in Elvis’ 1966 movie ‘Easy Come, Easy Go’.
The film was Hal Wallis' last movie with Elvis and the circumstances - including forcing Elvis to wear a scuba suit and with only a low-budget - were not ideal.
Elaine Beckett still lives in LA and it was through a connection with her fine work for ‘The Humane Society Of the US’ that EIN managed to track her down for an interview about her amazing career and her time with Elvis.
Elaine Beckett not only worked with Elvis but met a multitude of fascinating people through her life in Arts and the movies..

Elvira and Elvis: Halloween is upon us and possibly our thoughts turn to "Elvira, The Mistress of the Dark". Since 1981, Elvira has become an icon and something of a Halloween tradition, hosting and skewering bad horror movies. Recently Elvira actor Cassandra Peterson was interviewed by Den of The Geek, where she talked about meeting Elvis.
Before she was the famed '80s horror show hostess Elvira, Cassandra Peterson was a Las Vegas showgirl with big dreams.
Elvira: When I was little my influences were, Vincent Price and Ann Margaret. Maybe I am kind of like the illegitimate child of Vincent Price and Ann Margaret. I have a little bit of both of those going on. Ann Margaret was my idol. I saw her in Bye Bye Birdie and I just thought "Oh my god, sexy redhead. She kissed Elvis actually in the movies. I want to be her."
Elvira: I was a big groupie, I loved music. I got to realize the dream of actually meeting Elvis and actually going out on a date with Elvis, so that was a dream come true for me. There was a lot of making out going on, we had a great time.
I met him in Vegas when I was a showgirl, and I went to his room, which was a giant two-story suite at the top of the International Hotel in Vegas, which is no longer there. He sat down at the piano and he sang a song with me sitting on the piano bench with him. I started harmonizing with him, and we were singing a song together. That’s when Elvis said to me "you have a pretty decent voice. Why don’t you get into singing? Why don’t you stop being a showgirl and take vocal lessons? Become a singer".

Elvis was 100 percent responsible for me getting out of Vegas and going on with my career. Elvis said to me, 'You don't want to stay here, this is not a town you should be in.' And I don't think if that would've come from anybody but Elvis I would've done it."
Elvis' advice inspired a move to LA, which is where Peterson auditioned for the role of Elvira. The rest is horror show history. More than 30 years later, she's still casting a spell on her legions of fans.

Mick Jagger Re-Confirms New Elvis Movie: The Rolling Stones frontman, who is producing James Brown biopic, Get On Up, as well as an untitled HBO "music-oriented" series, reconfirmed his bio-pic that brings the life of teenage Elvis to screen.
"I have been asked to be involved in producing a movie on an adolescent Elvis ... so that's in the works," he said.
Over a year ago EIN confirmed that Mick Jagger was a producer on the new Elvis bio-pic 'Last Train To Memphis'.
The rock star is also working on an HBO show which will be directed by Martin Scorsese. "I'm not in it. It's a story I worked on with Marty. It was going to be a movie and then we made it into a TV series. It's fictional drama. The lead character is the owner of a record company and it's about his life."
Jagger said he is "doing fine" following the suicide of his longtime partner, L'Wren Scott in March. "My family's been very supportive, you know. I've had a lot of work to do so that's kept me, you know, in a good way."

Jim Carrey Spoofs Elvis for Halloween: Poor old Elvis! It is truly stunning that 37 years after his death Elvis still has such a major presence in all media. However doing stupid imitations of Elvis has always been an easy option for comedians and for Halloween Jim Carrey was back at it again. This week he donned a red Elvis-inspired outfit with horns for ‘Saturday Night Live’s’ Halloween ep.
Carrey did his best to bring the funny back to "Saturday Night Live" but the skit has been reviewed as "Despite the initially amusing (or was it just jarring?) visual spectacle of Carrey decked out as Hellvis (picture a ’70s era Elvis with curly horns and red jumpsuit), this tedious Jailhouse Rock–style ditty made me never want to touch another pecan pie as long as I live."

Alvin Stardust, dies aged 72: Alvin Stardust was one of the more bizarre UK glam rock sensations of the 1970s. The singer with the Elvis quiff, looked like an Elvis Presley impersonator in his leather "Comeback-Suit" and used all manner of Elvis vocal mannerisms when in 1974 he sang his first and biggest hit, 'My Coo-Ca-Choo'. There was no doubt who he was imitating. His hair was luxuriantly bouffant, black sideburns covered most of his pale cheeks and he gazed at the camera with a mixture of sexy come-hither and curled-lip disdain. His only real concession to "glam" lay in the huge rings that he wore on his leather gloves.
Stardust went on to have four Top 10 hits in quick succession in the early 1970s. The most famous were 'My Coo Ca Choo' and 'Jealous Mind', although 'Red Dress' and 'You You You' were not far behind.
His original choice of name was Elvin, melding Elvis Presley and Gene Vincent. Before he adopted the chartbusting persona of Alvin Stardust, he had already had a trial run at pop stardom as Shane Fenton, lead singer with Shane Fenton and the Fentones. The group scored a handful of minor hits at the start of the 60s.
Although Stardust’s successes in the 1970s tended to dwarf the rest of his career, he enjoyed a revival in the 1980s before moving on to concentrate on acting and TV.

'An Evening with Elvis’ Friends and Original Musicians' Tour Update: Back in August Arjan Deelen was proud to announce that he had tracked down Elvis' 1970 drummer Bob Lanning. He was able make a deal with him for an exclusive tour in May 2015. This will mark the first time since 1970 that Bob will be playing Elvis’ music. For the first time, you will be able to hear songs like ‘Polk Salad Annie’, ‘The Wonder Of You’, ‘Walk A Mile In My Shoes’ and many others as played by the drummer that you can hear on the original Elvis versions.
Enthusiasm is already running high among Elvis fans for the 2015 “An Evening with Elvis’ Friends and Original Musicians” shows (featuring a.o. Duke Bardwell, Bob Lanning and Marlyn Mason). Below you can see a list of the shows booked at present. We are excited about every show obviously, but we are particularly thrilled about coming to the U.K. for the first time. We will be performing at the prestigious “100 Club” on Oxford Street in London, and also at the impressive “Sage Gateshead” in Newcastle, one of the leading U.K. concert venues. Wertheimer's Reaction To Finding The 'Mystery Kisser': It was back in 2010 that radio broadcaster Ron Brandon was the keen Elvis fan who discovered the identity of Wertheimer's famous 'Mystery Kisser'. It was Ron who actually got Mystery Kisser Barbara Gray and Alfred Wertheimer together on the phone for the first time since 1956 to discuss that famous night. This would lead to a Vanity Fair exclusive "The Elvis Kiss Mystery-Revealed!" in August 2011 along with multiple TV appearances and EPE promotion.
When found Barbara Gray, was 75 and didn't reveal her identity for the money or fame. "I just wanted to get my name on the damn picture,". Gray admitted that she become fed up with being known only as the "unknown woman in the wings" with a young Elvis in a stairwell at the Mosque Theater in Richmond, Virginia.
With the death of Alfred Wertheimer, Ron Brandon recalls what it was like to make that incredible phone call to Wertheimer and to reveal to him that the Elvis "Mystery Kisser" was finally found...

These items are all associated with the career of Elvis Presley and his connection to the imperials. Each item comes with a COA signed by Joe Moscheo and a photo of Joe and Elvis together.
Joe is also the author of The Gospel Side Of Elvis.
The collection for sale includes the 'Telegram from Elvis to Imperials 7/31/69 Vegas Opening Night' for a rather expensive US$3,000. Sadly there is no Elvis signature and it is from "Elvis And The Colonel".

Elvis Palm Springs home auction cancelled: Any hopes of bidding on the former Palm Springs home of Elvis Presley have just been dashed. A public auction slated Saturday for the 1946 home located at 845 W. Chino Canyon was cancelled Wednesday morning.
The listing agent, Jeff Egan stated that the seller had instead accepted a pre-auction offer.
The sale price and the identity of the buyer will only become public record after the escrow closes within the next 30 days.
When the auction price was $2.59 million and the home attracted multiple offers and counter-offers.
Egan acknowledged that the home, which has sat vacant in disrepair for months, needs quite a bit of renovation.

Oct 20, 2014 - Alfred Wertheimer Passed Away: EIN is sad to report that Elvis photographer Alfred Wertheimer passed away earlier today. His collection of images of Elvis in 1956 are unequalled.
"Elvis was unique in that he permitted closeness, not six to eight feet away, which was standard, but right up close, three to four feet away. He was so intensely involved with what he was doing: it was as if he were laser focused; whether he was combing his hair or chatting up the girls, he would be himself. I didn't realize how unique that was. I put Elvis under my microscope and studied him."
Wertheimer's images are witness to an incredible time in the history of photography, as well as to the birth of a star and new chapter in the history of music.
He was a lovely man who always took the time to chat to fans. He is pictured here recently with EIN's Sanja Meegin.

EIN Spotlight on Alfred Wertheimer: Photographer Alfred Wertheimer was a special guest at this year's Elvis Week "Conversations On Elvis". Wertheimer described a few of those moments he spent with Elvis back in 1956 to the crowd but of course the main topic of discussion was the recent discovery and confirmation of the woman belonging to the famous "Elvis Kiss" photograph.
It is incredible to learn that over seven days in 1956 Wertheimer shot over 3,500 photographs of Elvis in the months of March, June, and July in the unbelievable year that "the Memphis Flash" became the iconic "Elvis the Pelvis".
Back in 2009 Vanity Fair contributor Bob Colacello wrote a fascinating and detailed article about Alfred Wertheimer which goes on to explain far more about how Wertheimer and Elvis interacted to get those iconic images - "The First of Elvis".

New FTD November Releases: Four new FTD releases coming out in November, a 1975 soundboard, Something For Everybody VINYL set, Elvis' Christmas Album (Classic Album) and Flaming Star soundtrack album.
1. 'Elvis In Florida – April 1975' - The most exciting release, a new soundboard single disc 7" set featuring highlights from Elvis’ concerts during April 1975. The performances are taken from Jacksonville (April 25) and Lakeland (April 27 & 28). The 12-page booklet features great photos by Keith Alverson and memorabilia.
During his April 1975 tour Elvis was in good form, in a great mood and cracking jokes. We have already had plenty of soundboards from the May 1975 but no complete soundboards from April. FTD's Southern Nights captured the fabulous feeling from this 1975 spring era. (See Southern Nights FTD review here)
The tracklist includes plenty of favourites such as, Help Me, My Boy, T-R-O-U-B-L-E, I’ll Remember You, Big Boss Man, It’s Midnight, Funny How Time Slips Away and That’s All Right.

4. 'Elvis' Christmas Album' - FTD Classic Album
No tracklist or details have been supplied as yet.
There is little unreleased from Elvis' classic 1957 Christmas album September session. There is a known short part of studio dialogue before 'White Christmas' but the main session outtakes have been lost. Perhaps some more extra studio banter has been found on the master count-ins.
There are however plenty of binaural outtakes from the January 1957 'Peace In The Valley', 'It Is No Secret' session etc.

'Showroom Internationale' New RSD Vinyl: A new vinyl album 'Showroom Internationale' a special numbered 2LP set is to be released for US Record Store Day.
The album will be released as RSD exclusives before becoming more generally available. Now in its seventh year, Record Store Day is an annual day-long celebration of record store culture taking place on the third Saturday in April plus an annual Black Friday (November 28, 2014) event occurring the day after Thanksgiving.
The publicity notes "Elvis Presley - Showroom Internationale 2LP - 180G 12" vinyl. The film "Elvis: That's The Way It Is" provided fans with their first real glimpse of Elvis performing at an absolute peak of his vocal prowess in August 1970. This individually numbered, 17 song, 2 LP set features the King's full August 12, 1970 dinner show and includes 13 previously unreleased performances."
The show is of course not previously unreleased as it is the same performance as released on the recent TTWII Legacy release as well as the Deluxe TTWII set.
While we may already have the concert, the album cover is damn fine!

Tom Jones to Publish Autobiography: Music legend Sir Tom Jones is to release his autobiography next year through publishers Penguin. The Treforest-born singer, who has had worldwide fame and chart-topping hits for half a century, will share stories of his friendship with Elvis Presley, his racy Las Vegas residencies and turbulent TV career in his memoir. The book, yet to be named, is scheduled for release in autumn 2015 with the famous publisher after they secured the deal with Sir Tom’s son Mark Woodward, who is also the star’s manager. The 74 year-old will certainly have plenty to write about – not least about his incredible musical success, which has seen him notch up 36 UK top 40 hits and 19 more in the US. More recently he has won a new army of fans thanks to being a mentor on BBC One talent show The Voice.
But it’s likely to be his personal life which will whip up the most interest, with Sir Tom known for his legendary lothario which once saw him claim to have slept with around 250 groupies during his early days. Despite remaining married to childhood sweetheart Melinda since 1957 he has allegedly had affairs with Mary Wilson from The Supremes and former Miss World Marjorie Wallace. 2014 - Elvis Presley #2 Forbes Top-Earning Dead Celebrity: Five years after his death, the late and great King of Pop Michael Jackson
continues to bring in profits, topping Forbes’ annual Top-Earning Dead
Celebrities list for the second year in a row raking in $140 million - but with
Elvis Presley still holding second place.
Forbes determined this year’s rankings which ranks deceased celebrities who grossed the most hard cash in the prior year to come up with an estimate of what each artist’s estate made between October 2013 and October 2014.
As last year, Jackson is followed by Elvis Presley whose estate raked in $55 million in the past 12 months. Peanuts illustrator Charles Schulz brought in $40 million. The report notes that much of the newly amassed wealth stems from several factors, including outside parties managing the artists’ licensing and merchandise after buying their intellectual property rights, attractions like Elvis’ Graceland mansion, and the long lasting franchises like Peanuts, which is in production for a 3-D flick, due in 2015.
This year's report has hardly changed from last year’s list, which also had Jackson as the top earner, followed by Presley and Schulz. Other top-earners are actor Steve McQueen, Bruce Lee, model and pinup pioneer Bettie Page and actor James Dean.
Jackson earnings were boosted this year by a highly publicised (but ultimately disappointing) hologram appearance at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards plus a new album Xscape which despite the publicity did not make number one.
Elvis, the King of Rock n’ Roll, may again have taken a back seat to the King of Pop but Elvis' estate is still earning steadily thanks to his eternally

popular image, the internationally touring video-concerts and the stream of revenue from Graceland. Elvis' international earnings were bosted last year with his Platinum-selling UK Number 1 'The Nation’s Favourite Elvis Song'. And with new owners ABG changing the marketing-base and with the talk next year of an Elvis hologram things will change - possibly for good or bad.

(Book Review): Remember...A Love Story (Eve Thomas): The Elvis book library is a particularly eclectic one. In 2014 the latest addition to the 'new age' genre is Eve Thomas’s engaging and thought provoking memoir, Remember...A Love Story. Part biography, part revelation.......it is certainly not your usual book written around Elvis.
EIN's Nigel Patterson recently took an interesting and surprising journey into the spiritual world of Eve Thomas and her experiences with Elvis. From past lives which include being a passenger on the ill-fated Titanic to training elephants in India and twin flames (souls), this is a book that would have certainly attracted Elvis in his search for spiritual enlightenment and happiness.

Todd Slaughter Talks Elvis!: One of the last to meet The King before he died, and friend of legendary manager Colonel Parker, Todd Slaughter has run the Elvis Presley Fan Club of Great Britain for almost 50 years.“I was utterly consumed by him.”
"My dream, was to meet Elvis, and I did it.” In fact, the 68-year-old is being rather lenient with the facts.
He actually met Elvis three times, the last time in June 1977. In six weeks, the biggest star rock ‘n’ roll has ever seen would be dead.
“I’d noticed a decline in his health. The first two times I met him, 1972 / 73, he looked the same, maybe put a little bit more weight on. When I met him six weeks before he died, there was a producer who said to me, take a look at him up close, our make-up lady says it looks as if he’s got six months to live – it turned out he’d got six weeks.”
That last encounter was at Indianapolis Airport, where Elvis presented Todd with an award for being president of the Elvis Presley Fan Club of Great Britain for ten years, and the footage of it, filmed by a news crew Todd had slipped $100, is thought to be the last ever recorded of the megastar. |

“He came out of the plane, he looked very shaky, he did not look well. I then went to see what was his last show and he sang his heart out and did a set that lasted an hour-and-a-half instead of the usual hour. But I came back thinking things didn’t look good – and when it was announced on the radio that he’d died, I really wasn’t that surprised.”
A mechanical engineer by trade, Todd soon found himself sidetracked by the music industry.
“I met a lot of stars, from The Beatles to the Stones, Ike and Tina Turner, anybody who was anybody. And I was kind of a sycophant anyway! I thought it was great if you could meet these people.
“But it didn’t prepare me for meeting Elvis.” That encounter came about after Todd forged a relationship with Colonel Parker, Elvis Presley’s somewhat imposing manager. |

“Colonel Parker was absolutely fantastic (EIN says, see below!), a phenomenal character. He very kindly said ‘you can meet Elvis’,” Todd reveals. "’I’ll arrange for the whole group, at the Las Vegas Hilton.”
While people travelling en masse to the States is a matter of absolute routine now, back in the Seventies it was a big deal, underlining the clamour for Elvis to perform in Britain, something which, famously, he never did.
“Colonel Parker said to me at one point, ‘look, if you want Elvis to come to Britain, you get me an offer’.
“And I did, from a promoter. But it didn’t happen. By then it was 1975 and obviously Elvis wasn’t that well.”
Two years later and he’d be gone, ravaged, it’s commonly thought, by rampant abuse of prescription drugs.
“Back then everything was changing – it was a phenomenal time to be around. All we do now, I think, is duplicate what’s happened before. Music is not as important as it used to be. There’s no excitement about what’s number one.

Todd Slaughter and Elvis - Marty Lacker Comments: I read Todd Slaughter's article (see above) and it is easy for me to tell that he was conned by Parker and he probably allowed himself to be to get access to Elvis. However, he doesn't reveal that he had a strong entree to Parker because of the guy who started the fan club, Albert Hand, who made friends with Parker and who visited Elvis a number of times on the sets in Hollywood. All arranged by Parker because, whether Albert knew it or not, Parker was using him for publicity in England. The same with Slaughter, Parker didn't do anything for anyone unless he benefited from it.
Todd should have mentioned Albert who also once gave Elvis a bicycle built for two that he rode around the movie studio a few times. If it wasn't for Albert Hand, Todd would have never gotten near Elvis.
As for Parker's crap about Elvis being the one who did not want to play England - that's bullshit! It was all Parker because he was an illegal alien and he was afraid if he left the U.S. he would be found out. More than one promoter, including Lloyd Greenfield who was

The first time Jones met Elvis on the set of Paradise Hawaiian, Lloyd was with him and I was standing next to Elvis when Lloyd offered Elvis $1 Million for one show at Wembley. I told him to take it to Parker which he did - and then Parker

EIN Adds - Albert Hand was the first President of the Elvis Fan Club of Great Britain and in the early sixties visited the US to meet Elvis. He was also founder and editor of 'Elvis Monthly' magazine as well as producing the "Elvis Special" year-books. He later handed over the reins to the younger Todd Slaughter. Albert Hand died in 1972.
Todd Slaughter does honestly describe himself as "a kind of a sycophant". Parker would have loved that, perfect for manipulation!

Fake Elvis "Answering Machine" message released by FTD!: The promotional blurb for the recent FTD book 'Best Of British – The RCA Years 1957-1958' noted in part, "This is Elvis, with the continuation of the British story now detailing his RCA releases from 1957 - 1958. The CD included with this book features many first-time officially released Elvis tracks. Here, amongst his classic songs, are the songwriters’ demo recordings as Elvis first heard them, plus the message he recorded on his home answer machine!"
Unfortunately it has now been revealed that Elvis' answering-machine message is a fake, edited together from The Truth About Me interview outtakes of August 22 1956. It isn't an answer phone message at all!.

Of course EIN certainly agree that the book, by Trevor Simpson, is a marvellous examination of the period and that the CD is only a bonus however this has to be a major slip-up, albeit only 16 seconds long. It has also been round for long enough for keen Elvis fans to know that it was only a fake. It starts "Hi, this is Elvis Presley" in exactly the same way as the Truth About Me.
Of course it might be OK to add it as a Bonus "joke" track but to promote it as the real deal is misleading at the very least. EIN now learns that FTD were made aware of this potential fake track as soon as the tracklisting came out but for did not think it necessary to update their promotional blurb.

(Book Review) Elvis and Ginger: It has been 37 years in the making but finally, Elvis' fiancee and last love, Ginger Alden, has released her account of their relationship.
The picture Ginger paints of Elvis is a predominately positive one. She had concerns about his reliance of medications and his temper, but she also shows the warmth of Elvis Presley and that he wasn’t always withdrawn or emotionally down. Elvis laughed, talked, read books, played racquetball and had fun!
That said, release of her memoir has elicited an emotionally charged debate and divided some fans.

(Book Review) Memphis Mafia Princess: Shirley Dieu's memoir of her years inside Elvis' inner circle is one of two new books (the other being Ginger Alden's release, Elvis and Ginger).
Fan reaction to Memphis Mafia Princess has been a strongly positive one and, as EIN's Nigel Patterson recently discovered on reading Ms Dieu's memoir, rightly so.
From living the high life and backgammon parties at Huigh Hefner's private club to the rigours of touring and Elvis' tragic death, Shirley Dieu weaves a fascinating mosaic of life in Elvis’ inner circle and colorfully brings to life the nuances of both people and events. While the release is a positive affirmation of Shirley's experience with Joe Esposito (her partner for almost 5 years) and Elvis, it is balanced with insightful observations about Elvis, others in his life and a number of important incidents, one of which is particularly confronting and raises serious questions about the conduct of several of the Memphis Mafia.

... Originally, when this project was being discussed some years ago, the general idea was to have three volumes of Ultimate Elvis, each one dealing exclusively with the three decades Elvis recorded: the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s. That would give the work a neat symmetry, we believed.
However, as the project took shape and, incredibly, grew to about 1600 pages - which included a great deal of text along with about 3000 images - it became obvious that the amount of material we had for each of the decades varied considerably. This was due, in the main, to the fact that while Elvis’ recording career spanned twenty-four years from 1953 to 1977, his

his professional recording career only started in 1954 and paused, so to speak, in 1958. And while he did record some material at home in the 1958-1960 period, there wasn’t that much of it. The sixties, however, proved to be extremely prolific in terms of the number of film soundtracks he recorded, not to mention the non-film, original recording sessions he undertook during that period.
Therefore, in order to even out the material in three volumes of similar length - not so say accommodate the extensive discography and song index in the final volume - we decided to deviate slightly from our original idea and cover the time frame thus: 1953 – 1960; 1961-1968; and finally, the years leading up to 1977.

The highly-collectible That’s The Way It Is (Deluxe Edition), bonuses include unreleased material, remixed and remastered audio and a new 80-page book detailing the entire event with facts, songwriter and musician interviews, and photos in a deluxe 8CD/2DVD box set.
Originally released on RCA Records in November 1970, Elvis: That's The Way It Is combined eight studio tracks, recorded in Nashville, and four live concert performances recorded in Las Vegas during Presley's 1970 "Summer Festival" season at The International Hotel in Las Vegas to create one of Elvis' best albums.
On July 14, rehearsals for the movie and live shows commenced at the MGM lot in Culver City, California. The Hollywood cameras rolled for five different rehearsals prior to the opening night on August 10. Unquestionably, Elvis was keen to broaden his repertoire for the film,as more than 60 songs were attempted during the period, far more than the usual average of 20 to 25 that would normally be chosen. Over the four nights filmed by MGM, Elvis and his band worked tirelessly, trying out a broad variety of musical styles, emphasizing his desire to share the wide range of music he loved with his audience. Director Denis Sanders captured the end result magnificently, providing fans throughout the world with their first glimpse of the new contemporary Elvis performing at the peak of his vocal prowess both in rehearsal and on the stage.
'That's The Way It Is (Deluxe Edition)' centers on the SIX complete shows recorded and partially filmed by MGM. Two of the shows are released for the first time in their entirety. |

The original RCA album is expanded with the four single sides from the period, and a selection of “fly-on-the-wall” outtakes from the June Nashville sessions that produced the majority of tracks for the album. Completing the audio section, a separate disc of insightful rehearsal highlights, featuring unusual song selections showcases both the hard work and the playful atmosphere that governed Elvis’ relationship with his musicians.
That's The Way It Is (Deluxe Edition) puts the original RCA album and the 1970 MGM documentary feature together in a single package for the first time. It includes the previously released original theatrical DVD version (1970) and the re-edited and extended DVD version from 2000.
(EIN note: What a shame not one scrap of new footage has been included. This would have been the perfect place and presumably indicates that there will never be an official release of any more MGM filmed material).
